Gunk or any other degreaser. Cover electrics with cling-film and just spray it on. Rinse off with hose but don't use a jet-wash or you will get water in the electrics.

Alanbell...care to email me and I'll be happy to tell you in detail as to how to get your engine bay to show standard and you do not need cling film etc etc plus I send you piccies of what the engine and engine bay should like after your done.
