How can I do it?
Its just the standard "star" thing, but id like it in DBM rather than boring black, I can get it off ok, but is the black just paint or somthing more permanent?

It's paint. Just rub it with Wickes paintbrush cleaner. This doesn't affect the plastic. Then wash it in soapy water, dry, and repaint. You don't even need to spray it, as you'll get a good finish with a brush---you're doing the INSIDE, remember?
