Default Giggs wins PFA player of the year

BBC SPORT | Football | Giggs earns prestigious PFA award

I think Rooney has been oustanding for United this season and thought he would have won this but pleased Giggs has. He has been in vintage form this season

Ashley Young also a worthy winner of the young player imo.

Pains me to say it as a Leeds fan but he deserves it. Greatest player of the modern era IMHO.

Cant believe he has never won it before TBH

Not suprised at Young`s award although suprised Walcott wasnt shortlisted for it.

Shocked at the League 1 team of the year though, how they can miss out Beckford after 33 goals is a mystery to me Especially after missing a pretty big chunk of season due to injury. Best striker in that division IMO

You could also say the same thing about Simon *** of Swindon Town who has scored 30 odd goals this season.

Giggs deserves an award for his lifetime achievements, but this really isn't it. Shows it up for the farce that it really is.

Ash is bitter and twisted. We can all see that.

As for Giggs, he''s a world class player, and has been for years. God I've wished more times than I can remember that he was English.

That said, player of the year starting 12 games? I don't think so. I don't understand why he hasn't won this already.

ffs i say 12 games and 1 goal and i'm bitter and twisted ? anyone else and its ok.

dont mind giggs as a play and recognise he's been a top prem player but he's nowhere near best footballer this year. he would not even make the prem's top 11 this year.

proves one thing tho don't have a clue when it comes to voting.

honest question for the man u fans - you reckon he deserved it more than your other players? somehow i dont you could agree.

Being the down to earth bloke he is, he's probably a bit embarrassed to be honest. Do the bloke some justice and give him a proper award, not this as some token gesture. He'd only played 8 games when the votes were actually cast

thats half th problem, well probably all of it, they take the votes in jan and feb. its like voting for the car of 2010 in july 2009. doesnt make sense

just the lads in the FA wanting to pat each other on the back and it will be an excuse for them to have a knees up

Is'nt it the players that vote for it? If so, then it his peer group, those inside the game that thought he deserved it. However you can't help thinking it was voted for more of a lifetime achievement award than an annual award.

Also a bit crazy, voting in March, bit like asking who the best racing driver is for this year, today Button or Vettel, by the end of the season, who knows.

Ps. And yes you are bitter and twisted, describing such a successful player as one legged

Do you write for the Telegraph, ash? As that article you posted is about as pro-biased towards Gerrard as I have ever seen.

dont think giggsy deserved it to be honest, I support Liverpool but I think Vidic should have won it as he has been awesome this season for you (especially a certain 1 - 4 result )
Seriously though I do actually think Vidic should have gotten it as he has been a regular and very very consistent (until recently)

I could understand Giggsy getting a achievement award on sports personality (but not for his Quorn acting skills )
