Sorry fellas, it pains me to say, but with the benefit of Sky+ pause, I've watched it a dozen times and his foot JUST touches the line before he grounds the ball. I was up in arms at the decision at the time, but it wasn't a try

The picture on the msn home page suggests it was a try. SA are deserving winners though.

Sorry but that was a try - there comes a time when touching the upper 2mm of chalked grass has to be given in the spirit of the game.

Try try try all the way

After that run - it would have been a very different game

Still dont know that we'd have won - but I do know that was a **** fiucking poor decision by a bitter australian who should have gone home with his team.

Interested to see if you would have felt that way had it been the other way around....

Well done you stupid ******* pr!ck of a ref (and video ref) for ruining what should have been the game of the tournament
Now the refs cheating... not just the South African players.
Martin Johnson agreed with the video refs decision by the way.

Martin Johnson is the consumate professional and wouldn't argue with the official's decision on TV under any cirmcumstance....for which I admire him greatly. I wish even a handful of chav football "professionals" had half the integrity.

I obviously cant say for sure - but I honestly dont believe I'd have been upset had that been given to SA under reversed circumstance.

"Possibly" touching the upper few mm of chalked grass isnt enough in my mind to determine the world cup. That should have been given.

My mail to a mate before this thread...

MSN home page has a nice pic….which is about 5 ms after the crucial point where a boot may have touched the “tip” of a chalked blade of grass. very very poor decision for me. I couldn’t have complained if that one had gone to SA had it been reversed.

Two games i'd like to see, England vs SA with a NZ ref and SA vs NZ as I think the All Blacks would flatten SA (still can't understand how they lost to the Frogs).
Without trying to be contrary, I believe his foot was in touch before he grounded the ball. At the point where he grounded the ball, no part of his body was in touch, but by that stage the offence had already occurred.

Cant really comment on Martins 'changed' opinion.

Using a NZ ref would lead to SA complaining... generally the Boks have poor results when NZ ref them.

Regarding the Boks v All Blacks, that has been a standing statement for NZ on any RWC team for the last 4 WC's (well excluding 95 when they were in the final).

Not being an all year round sports fan some of the rules do elude me. So may I ask one question:

Under what circumstances are you allowed to drag the ref into the middle of the pitch and shoot him?

Hmmm... just under Cuetos foot in the image above, there appears to be a mark on the line. Would be interesting to know if that was there before this movement?

The 2nd half was **** compared to the 1st half and thats all down to the ref.
In terms of the decisions made there were a few dodgy calls but in general I thought they balanced out. I thought England was very unlucky not to get the accidental obstruction by Habana and Rousouw in the SA half. Two other incidents that also bear further scrutiny are the push by Toby Flood on Montgomery and the trip of Butch James by Moody.

Sod the dis-allowed try, it wasn't the difference between winning, and losing.

We lost because of the penalties we gave away !

It's a shame some members of the team can't quite grasp the rule of keeping their fecking hands out !!!

Mark.

To be fair you were lucky the ref didn't ping England more for hands in the ruck than he did!! I thought he had a pretty good game all said, and what he did get wrong he got wrong for both sides fairly consistently.

That was not a try, spot on decision from the video ref because Cueto's foot was in touch before he got near to grounding the ball. England lost that game because SA were a better side, plain and simple. Be proud you got to the final, some better sides didn't even make it that far in what will be remembered as one of the best world cups ever.

Watching it last night, I was sure it was a try.
But seeing it again today on the news, the video ref was correct.
NO TRY.

I thought the ref had a good game, it was the video judge that made the decision. And although SA were the best team throughtout the whole tournament, I actualy thought England were the better team in the final, they certainly in my eyes played the rugby with the most attacking intent, just lacking that bit of genius in the last part of the field.
