I have just started playing again after quite a few years off.

Just bought a cheapo set of clubs from a mate, but ideally looking to get a decent new set.

I have no idea what brands are decent these days, a quick look on e-ghey totally confused me.

Any help in getting a decent set would be appreciated.

Also, whats the best UK golf forum?

 

I've Heard Norwich Union do great Golf Cover .

I'd stick with your mates old clubs for a year just be sure you want to get back into it - otherwise you could be parting with loads of dosh for an expensive set of intruder defence devices .

 

As jasey said try your mates for a while to see if you get the bug again ( which you will ) and then buy a different set!

You've got your top brands, Mizuno (the best irons) Nike, Taylor made, Titleist and Callaway. But you will pay top prices too!

Depending on the level you used to play at will determin the type of irons to go for.

1- Forged irons. Tend to be blades or close to blades and are for the lower handicapper. They are less forgiving on off centre hits!

2- Cast irons. What most clubs are, come in all shapes and sizes and can be used from a 28 handicapper to a Professional. This is what i'd recommend if you were buying.

Another good thing to do is buy a second hand set of "last years" model. These can be bought for not much money yet are still up to date in technology!

Something like THESE would be a good buy!

If you want brand new but don't want to spend a fortune then i can highly recommend Benross clubs. They are very well made and use top quality shafts but are not expensive to buy!

Mmmm nike clubs, i like the sound of that. Since when did nike become a big name in the golfing world? Did they sponsor tiger woods?

 

They became a big name soon as Mr Woods started "playing" their irons! Even though the clubs he uses are by a company called Muira and have a Nike stamp in them

They have a very nice range though and i know many pro's who use them!

just got back into golf again recently myself. Bought a set of Wilson fat shaft clubs - ideal for trying to improve your game, they're a lovely club and quite forgiving!

 

i got the taylormade rac os 11 irons. these are very forgiving but also a powerful club. i have only been playing for 12 months - started off with a total package from ram (concept irons) but changed to the taylormades within 4 months. try on-line golf or direct golf you can get some good deals.

 

Go to a good golf range/pro shop and try a few what suits some does not suit all and what you like and are confident with will improve your game.

Boro, a good golf forum to go on is PGA EuroPro Tour Message Board - General Chat its full of up and coming players. I am a pro that plays on the Europro and European Challenge tour. I post on that forum under the name of pro, if you ever want or need advice I would be willing to help you. I agree with Wheelshopo_o I would try some out, then buy over the internet. In my opinion Nike are the best clubs, but I would say that because I am sponsored by Nike, so have to use you them. I would still use them if I wasn't with Nike. It really comes down to personal preference as all the clubs these days are top quality.
