Anyone do any night sports?
...and I don't mean bedroom gymnastics!
I do night orienteering, and the winter league is about to begin and I'm looking at replacing my Petzl Zoom head torch - anyone know a really good one to get?
Been looking at a Silva 480 headlamp but by the time you add battery, charger etc - the price is the same as a PIAA driving lamp conversion for the car!!
Anyone knoe of a head torch that'll give that "bu99er me! Daylight!!" sensation without splashing out 200 notes?

how long are the races? your eyes adjust to nighttime vision in around 30-45 mins.
Don't do any particular night time sports, but spend most winter nights out running cross country and anytime I do some hill walking at this time of year, it's always dark when I drag myself off a mountain.
I use a Petzl TacTikka to give me enough light to read a map.
I would stick with Petzl. Have you looked at the DUO range?

Need long range lighting really to be able to navigate off the terrain - the Petzl zoom I've got has been OK but most other competitors have high powered type setups so I'm at a real disadvantage - especially when running round a forest looking for a red & white marker about 6inch squre a foot off the ground.
Races usually last around 30-40 mins but can be as long as 1hr or more.

I'd look at the Petzl Duo or Myo range. They should have plenty battery life to last 60mins on full chat.
Halogen is probably still your best bet for range.
