I`m totally gutted. Can`t see them doing anything now this season. You don`t miss your first 3 pens and still win the game, although, we were let back into it.
Any professional footballer who can`t hit the target from 12 yards should be sacked. Fair enough if the keeper makes a save, but to miss the goal altogether is terrible.

It should never have got to Penalties (or extra time). We were awful.
Still, unlike the other Clubs in the North East, we've made a bit of dosh, won one and lost one in the ECL this Season, and of course now go into the Draw for the UEFA Cup.
What would Clubs with history and tradition like Sunderland, Hartlepool Utd, Darlington, Scarborough and York City give for such an opportunity?
Oh and then there's Middlesbrough FC (1986) - no history, no tradition - just a string of unpaid debts from the previous Club that went bust!. Done nought, won nought!
Cheers

Toonman, Your post highlights the problem with the Newcastle fans..... you don't mind failure! You are quite happy to look at the small picture and as long as you are top of the pile from the NE clubs you are relatively happy. You've won nothing of importance for years now! The fans should start to demand some kind of results in major competitions. Also you should look to your manager to sort out your defence.

Toon looked very poor against Leeds so I'm not surprised. As for penalties, until English managers accept that everything improves with practice, including penalty taking, our clubs will continue to lose out. This being Robson versus Lothar Matthäus, the Englishman lost, naturally.

I based my comments on this post of yours and I stand by them

Just trying to be positive on a disappointing night, when we played badly. Nothing wrong with that. At least I wear my heart on my sleeve and am passionate about my Club.
You believe what you want. It's not as if I care much - it's not as if we're friends or anything is it?
Cheers

I'm sure you don't care what I think but I still thought I'd put across what I was thinking.
With a club like Newcastle (this includes its fans) they are always going on about they are one of the big clubs.... great stadium, fantastic support, history etc. The thing is that all that means nothing next to achieving something in the game. It's all very well having the above but I know if I was a supporter of NUFC I'd rather be able to have some silverware to show for year after year of playing in various competitions. There are clubs that most people would consider to be 'smaller' in comparison based on the above but yet that have achieved success in recent times. I'm thinking of clubs like Blackburn, Everton.
If NUFC want to be a 'big club' they have to 1.) forget about what the other NE clubs are doing and concentrate on where they are in comparison to the real big clubs in England (also Europe) 2.) Get the mentality that winning is everything irrespective of how it's done (think Arsenal under George Graham). Newcastle as a club liked to be liked by other supporters. Teams like Man Utd and Arsenal couldn't care less what other teams think of them as long as they achieve something at the end of the season in terms of some silverware to show.
All IMHO

I think you misunderstand what the Club's about. Last night's result was a major blow - no one is taking things lightly. The only one comparing NUFC to the likes of Sunderland etc, was me, last night. That was for PSLewis's benefit. Please see other threads.
If you really want to see my feelings about last night (I doubt you do), pop over to: http://thefinalwhistle.net/viewtopic.php?t=232

Check out: http://www.nufc.com/ Not everyone chooses to discuss their feelings at length in Scoobynet.
Mind, there are plenty of short, sharp comments from NUFC fans in the other current thread in here.
I hope no one says we're content...

I'd have loved to seen NUFC in the ECL this season
It's a long time since I've been this annoyed and upset about a performance. At least on Saturday, we played okay in the 1st half. I feel like I did after the Liverpool vs NUFC FA Cup Final in '74.
