Well thanks for that articulate, well reasoned, intelligent post. Loads of value added to the forum. But, have you jumped the gun? Theres no news of the possible venues on either the BBC football, Sky Sports, FA, or CFC websites. I've also just watched Sky sports news and theres no details of the venues on there either. You're as informed / organised as the fools at Villa Park and the FA .

Granted, Villa park and Old Trafford are likely choices, but just because the FA choose the venues doesn't mean the choice is right. After all, look at the financial state the FA have got themselves in, and the completely illogical decisions they make year after year with little or no regard to the travelling fan. No doubt they are presently contacting the Highways authority to make sure they lay on some major road works on the M6 that Sunday .

Oh and I'm assuming it will be Saints v Watford at Villa park? Can anyone explain why this fixture can't be played at Highbury? Easy really, for the second year running the semi finals clash with the London marathon so the dear old met just can't cope. Doesn't this just smack of incompetance on the FA's part?

Saints and Hornets fans have my sympathy for all the unnecessary travelling they have to do. Lets hope you get home from darkest Aston before 3am unlike some of us last season.

Mark

Yawn, yawn . I shouldn't have expected anything more original from you should I.

In the meantime, for those genuinely interested, and in possession of a reading age greater than 5, heres some info I found on the Chelsea website this morning.

http://www.chelseafc.com/article.asp?id=136531

Ken Bates is chairman of the FA Challenge Cup Committee and is without doubt that the Old Trafford semi-final venue, 1pm kick-off, is the best option available for Chelsea or Arsenal v Sheffield United.

“We spent nearly an hour on this issue,” he explained this morning. “The rules insist that you have to have as near as possible a 50-50 split in tickets.

“Getting the Southampton-Watford tie into London was thus a problem. At West Ham nearly three sides of the ground would have to go to one club and only one to the other. Arsenal is a 60-40 split. Even Stamford Bridge is 55-45. Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham are all due to play home Premiership games that weekend too.

“Aston Villa, however, are away. And Villa Park can give a 50-50 split, that’s why it’s always going to get used.

Hmmm, well thats convinced me Ken that theres many great reasons for using Villa Park . Oh and can anyone explain why Highbury could be used for the Chelsea v Wimbledon semi final in 1997? Surely Watford won't take/shouldn't be entitled to any more tickets than Wimbledon got that year (presumably 40%?).

As a Saints fan I would have prefered a London venue.Stamford Bridge ideal. But with the London plod at "full stretch" it was never going to happen.
I understand there are engineering works on the trains that weekend and as usual the roads are being dug up so a pretty sh*t journey for some.
I will be making a weekend of it,any excuse for a few beer's!!
Once the new Wembley is built, and both semi's are being held there, will they then move the dates so no clash with the marathon?

Paul.
