HAHA!!!!!! Take that you unbelievers!!!!! The US deserved that win. The came out and dealt with Figo, and if not for that stunning deflection off of Agoos, it would have finished 3-1

Question

So it would have been 3-1 except for the 'friendly fire'?

Way to go the underdogs.
Won me a tidy little sum that takes my winnings to green figures.

Money on all the longshots is working a treat so far

Interesting, interesting, isn't it? If we can sort out a win against S. Korea and even manage a draw with Poland, we'll go through as tops from our group. Of course, if we go through at all it will be new ground for our boys...

And to think I've got money on Portugal to win the whole tournament

It looked like a good game, even if I was trying to watch it on a 2.3inch screen

Mike M, It'll be new ground for the Oirish to, and on todays performances both teams deserve it. I'll reserve judgement on our lot till Friday afternoon.

I tipped the US to win at odds of 7:1

Should have followed my instinct and some money down. I think they should get past the Koreans as well, to make the next round.

I also think that the next round is not out of our (the USA) grasp.
Should be intresting to watch the progression with all these upsets.

Shrieden,

Explain why getting excited and making a hollywood epic about the USA beating Portugal is good advice for myself????

If by any chance I did get the chance I reckon I have a winning script.

Basically USA are 6 - 0 down at half time and in a complete mess, but hold on Air Force One has flown in and landed on the pitch, its the president ( Played by Clint ) He goes in to the dressing room and speaks to the boys, telling them that little lad isnt really seeing ghosts and they can now get a grip and WIN.

So the team led by captain Wil Smithe and the talismatic all american hero at the back Arnie Schwarzperson play for glory. The little rascal in midfield Shaun Penn is getting stuck in, OH NO hes been sent off, what is going to happen now, surely its all over.

On comes the sub though....its the legendry Die Hard Bruce, 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - EQUALISER, this is what dreams are made of.

PENALTY, last minute to Portugal, GOAL

WHAT!!! We cant end it like that.

SAVED Sly does it again, the ***** booted up field, whats this Bruce is clean through, both his legs are broke as he rides sixteen challenges, he fights the pain takes everyone on and
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL.

Im getting bored now....Im going to have to end the film.

IM JUST JOKING OK. Granted, USA did do very well and the football has greatly improved and yes I can see them qualifying now.

Crispy Duck - we've been to the quarters before. 1990 - 3 draws in the group, (England, Holland and Egypt) beat romania 5-4 on penalties and then got beaten 1-0 by Italy in the quarters.
Revenged that in 1994 by beating Italy 1-0 in the group opener. This is the only match that Ireland have ever won in the World CUp finals Now we have started with two draws - do I see a pattern?

But FB, surely their 2nd win will be against the Saudis, IIRC win by 2 clear goals and you're through.

They can't throw it away now...

can they?

Well, I guess the US would be best playing the poorer teams first just to keep the ego boosted

So the US has a huge movie industry, big freakin' deal, I am talking about the world cup, in the world cup forum, and looking at England's performance so far I would say that they are going to be hard pressed to qualify, which is where my comment came from.

Argentina are not looking like they are going to be a pushover and if the game ends equal then, correct me if i'm wrong, you will be relying on results from the other match. Not the best position to be in.

The US looks to have a more likely path to the next round. I know I shouldn't say stuff like this, but it is Korea next, and with a win I think we will be in the next round. Is it presumptuous (sp) to expect a win, maybe, based on the world cup so far, the US being prime examples (and even in the qualifying for the WC) So what is my point, not sure, just let me enjoy our little bit of success unabated, ok

Shrieden,

Sorry to have touched a nerve in your moment of glory.

My movie scenario was not about the USA having a big movie industry, but about how the US movies milk absolutely everything to put the US above everyone else.

As for letting you enjoy your victory, fair enough enjoy it, BUT if you are going to send messages to a web site harping on about it then expect a little banter! IF you dont like the banter then enjoy it in other ways.

As for England, yes we are in a tough group and in a tough position as we were when we went to Munich needing a win and shat on them 5-1. England can beat Argentina, no doubt about that, people go on about them and the team but remember Beckam, Owen, Scholes and the like would walk in to any club sides anywhere in the world except the US cos they wouldnt want to play for Los Angeles Galaxy or whatever unless they were 42 and skint. JOKE!!!

And if we don't qualify then yes it will be dissapointing but we are a young team and we will lick our wounds and live to fight another day.

Footies a funny old game as they say and yes this world cup has thrown up some suprises. Basically the moral of this reply is my original point was not to get too carried away, the movie thing was just the banter! Your getting all in flap not just talking about qualifying from the group but now your on about getting through the second round, youve only played one game, granted it was a good result but theres a long way to go. CALM DOWN, if you do get through then great you'll be buzzing but theres nothing worse in football than expectation and then loosing out, just relax and take one game at a time and see what happens

s'later.

Edited just to mention the one nil victory. Were not there yet, but what a great performance and result.
