SIDC Karting Day.

Thanks for bringing James' post up to the front PTMW!
£57 seems a tad expensive - when we do the same event at work, it's about £30, albeit for 30 mins not 40 each.
Still, if we get enough people....... maybe it's worth it to prove myself
James - I'll come along...
PTMW! - fancy being a team-mate?
Thanks James & PTMW

just some extra info, we had a Supra karting day there arranged by Japanese Import Centre and its a great track, the top bend can be taken flat out if you have the ***** to try it.
The only problem was the state of the karts and the process if you damage the kart. A number of karts had total brake fade which is a bit tricky on a 2 hour race. Also, if you damage the kart (I broke a front steering arm) then you have to stand around while they repair it. It took them 10 minutes to change the steering arm, but others werent so lucky, at least a couple of karts bent the rear axle and the teams had to stand around for at least 20 minutes while the mechanics beat the crp out of the axle trying to get it straight again. They have 1 spare kart so if your kart fails through no fault of your own they give you the spare, otherwise there are no spare karts.
Still a bloody great track though, just remember not to break anything.

I would be up for this if anyone from the Essex area wants to get a team together and needs a spare bum for the seat
I race at Rye House about twice a year and know the circuit very well, although we use the 100cc lunatic 2 stroke karts
The bottom bend is amazing and needs to be taken flat out or you lose places in our series, scrub the speed off for the tightening double right hander by getting the kart sideways is the preferred method
The facilities have improved 100% from last year and the club house with new toilets, showers and shop are amongst the best available in the UK. The upper bar area is very big and hot and cold food/drink are available. The balcony extends out over the back straight and gives uninterrupted views of the whole circuit, good sun trap for the ladies if they wish to take adavantage

SIDC Karting - 14 July 2001 - Hoddesdon, Herts
I have booked Rye House Raceway, Hoddeston, Herts (not far from Essex ) For an SIDC Endurance Karting Challenge.

There follows driver briefing, warm-up and the race itself.

Forgot to mention that this is an Outdoor Kart-Prix circuit...
£170 a team was the best price I could find for this type of event in the Essex area...
I did originally approach F1 City Karting at Victoria Dock, they wanted £270 per teak for the same event, now that is ...
Un-officially, teams can be between 2 and 5, which I guess we can do if you are sending a team entry.
Individuals will be in teams of 3, 'cos thats easy to organise and gives a good amount of track time.
Remember, if you want to come, please email me:

This price is very similar to the price at Daytona Milton Keynes (also outdoor).
If you have only done indoor events, you will not believe the speed these things can do.
With regard to crash repairs, that is typical of all circuits. You break the cart, you wait while they repair it. Its a good incentive to be smooth and stay out of trouble... as if
James, put me down for a Scoobysport team

When I went, they spilt fuel over the brake disc during the refuelling stop, which meant at the next corner we had *no* brakes....
I have also done F1-City in Victoria Dock -- on slicks in the p*ssing rain. Great fun -- I ran with the visor up as I couldn't see through it and when I'd finished I had the sort of oil/dirt-stained face you see on old footage of Stirling Moss getting out of his car at the end of the race.
I will see if I can get 3 together.

I did a stag do 2 hour endurance at Priory Park, near Tamworth (http://www.priorypark.co.uk) this past weekend.
The place is excellent, the karts were great - and we got an instant replacement when we broke one. Best of all, it was £120 per team, so £40 each for a team of 3.
The guys there were really good, the outdoor circuit very well laid out and surfaced, and the karts reliable (ours broke in a crash). They also provided drinks and biscuits, car parking, lockers, and showers at no cost.
Fun day was had by all,
Simon (in no way connected with Priory Park karting - had never been there prior to this weekend).
