Exclamation UNMARKED POLICE BIKE

Warning to anyone in the Hants area...there is a RED unmarked bike (not sure of make!!)operating in the area.It is equipped with a video camera/speed detection etc.
A friend of mine was pulled for doing 75 on a quiet country road (60 limit) between Winchester and Bishops Waltham over the week end.(a favorite area for bikers apparently).

keep your eyes open people

steve

Yeah, I've seen the bike (its either a BMW or Honda Pan European) about in Eastleigh before, although the rider does have to wear a police reflective jacket which gives you half a chance. However anyone 'stretching their legs' down country lanes popular with bikers in Hampshire at the moment should be careful, there is currently a campaign to reduce biker deaths involving the mobile camera units (mean old man in white van with a camera) out on popular biker routes in the evenings.

hmmm....not too sure if they have to wear a reflective jacket whilst riding. The police in Surrey have unmarked 'sports' bikes who frequent the bikers meets at Box Hill, the bikes are equipped with small strobes in the mirror housings, cameras and the riders wear matching coloured leathers to the bikes so they 'blend' in.

Would this not be classed as entrapment then?

Policy varies from force to force, and on who’s making decisions at the time. By wearing their reflective jackets, the plod on the unmarked bike are avoiding the legal minefield that is uniform, (a good solicitor can get you off a conviction if the officer who stopped you hadn’t put his hat on for instance) secondly, if the unmarked biker is required to wear unmarked leathers and is then knocked off his bike by someone who claims he wasn’t very visible then the police are potentially liable.

Red face

UPDATE..it was a Red 'W' reg Pan European, and apparently he was 'racing' the bike through the 'twisties'..silly boy 3 points and £60 fine.

Plenty of unmarked cars around this area and they don't wear their reflective jackets when on patrol (normally only the white shirts are visible)..only seen them put their hats on when getting out of the car.
Can't see the 'entrapment argument' will work as the speed limits and speed camera signs are well marked and highly visible.
