and no i dont mean the football team (come on arry pull ya finger out)

Left Gunwharf key car park friday afternoon just as it got dark. Some silly bee atch sat behind me in her golf with her lights on full beam. Flashed me fogs a few times, she aint got a clue what day of the week it is. Come to the traffic lights where you turn left onto the main dual carriageway, she is still sat behind. Turn left onto carriage way, car infront I thought I will get past this and pull back in so she dassles him and not me.......accelerate ....FLASH
One of those coming towards it type cameras flashed at me. I looked down and speedo was reading 40. May have been slightly more.

Question is does anyone know what the limit is there????

Past the rugby ground to the lights then turn left. Then its that piece of dual carriageway???

Front facing cameras do not flash, only the good old fashioned rear facing Gatso, so unless you saw the flash in your mirror, It probably wasn't you it was catching.

Also a large percentage of Cameras don't have film in them so even if it was you, you may be lucky, as for the speed on there - no idea, if you can give me a GPS location I can probably look it up for ya

Gary,

Do you mean the one situated just after a pedestrian bridge, before another set of lights? If yes, I know the camera you mean, and its a 30mph limit there.

Doctor Evil yes I think there was a bridge there, cant be sure though. I think I had just gone under a brdge and was heading towards a round about. Must have been about 300 yards from the Gunwharf turning heading towards town and the M27.

As for the flash yes it did no question about it.

Silly place to have a 30MPH speed limit on a dual carriage way. So that nice lady with her extra bright full beam lights could have cost me a few quid. Stupid lack of concentration on my behalf me thinks

Thumbs up

Gary,

Yeah, there is a round about after the set of lights following this camera. I was amazed at the number of cameras that seem to have sprung up down in Portsmouth...

And I agree, looks more like a 40 there, but unfortunately isn't AFAIK.

Truvelo's do flash, just not that brightly because of the filter over the flasher to stop them from dazzling drivers.

And it's a 30 there, if you got flashed it's highly likely that your nicked as now the fines go directly to the old bill they can afford to keep them full of film and pay for the processing of the fines.

You did see the other one next to the Shell garage on the way out (40 limit leading to national limit) ????

I got flashed by the same camera Gary, never heard a thing i wouldnt worry about it i think its a reminder camera.I also regard forward flashing cameras as dangerous especially if you suffer from epilepsy.

[Edited to say its a 30 limit]

depending on what lane the camera covers, there may be a loophole to get you off,,

afaik i can see that there is an element of doubt regarding this
scamera, if there is an element of doubt, your soliciter could argue the point.

Mart:

I went through the unsigned form loophole not the one relating to a specific camera. The unsigned form loophole can still be done I think by getting someone else to fill in the details and leave the form unsigned but I think you will need a good solicitor to help you along the way.

Good luck.

Nick,

it wasnt the non signing loophole

if you go back and look at the road, you will see that if you come off at the roundabout/ island and head toward the scamera ther is a mandatory 100mtr 30mph warning with a camera sign.. makes the camera valid

however if you pull out of the turning by the rugby pitch, there is as far as i can see, (we all had a good look last time we were there) no speed limit notification.... until you hit the scamera...

this then leads to an element of doubt, ie urban clearway dual carrageway etc... no speed limit or scamera warning posted if you can prove no mandatory sign within the speccd distance... all that is needed is an element of doubt

I know what you mean now Mart. Sounds very good grounds for a dispute. The safespeed site is a good place for sound information relating to situations like that. May have a look later.

UPDATE

went that route today,,

two signs visible

1st states dualcarrage way

if you then pull up in the right hand lane to turn left,

and look left and up in the air there is a mandatory 30 /cam sign

however if you are on the inside lane to turn left, i think you would be hard pushed to see it,,

hence element of doubt

I heard that of the 19 or so camera's in and around Portsmouth only 2 (random) are ever 'on' on any one day, because the 2 police officers in Cosham can only deal with that number of tickets....

That dual carriageway (Anglesea Road) used to be a 40 I am sure, it is now a 30 but I don't know when it changed.

Regards,
James.
