Cambridge meet
#1
I see from the Northern section that Stan is getting his motor on the rollers at Well Lane at the end of the month. Maybe we should schedule a meet at The Plough, Fen Ditton in early February to see how it went . How does Tuesday the 4th February sound - provided Stan can make it of course

Hi Grahame,
Happy 2003 to you and the Cambridge crew.
Will be there all being well.
Now I realise you need 1.8 bar at 7K for 400BHP, and I'm set at 1.5
bar at 7K (for longer engine life allegedly) it'll be interesting to see print outs(to work out next mods !).

Wish I could but popping over for the evening from Sausageland is a bit tricky
Might be coming over at the end of April for about 4 days, so maybe we can organise another meet then?
Have fun guys

Hold on! Is the meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 4th Feb, or next week, Tuesday 11th Feb? The thread seems to settle on the 11th but it looks like Mark is showing up tomorrow !
Very confusing?

Hi Grahame,
To help you avoid sleepless nights worrying about the results () it was rubbish !
The full story is on Northern section - but to cut a long story short my top mount (+ their fan ?) caused inadequate cooling - (very high air intake temps) and it ran "rough" (well -not happy, anyway) to the extent that the guy lifted off at 6k. It gave 296BHP () at 6K with the engine running whatever retard on the timing it was set to when air intake temps too high (8-10 degrees ?) - doh !!! Goes fine when its moving through air - doesnt like being stationary !!
FMIC on its way as we speak!
See you tomorrow
Stan
PS as I said on the WL thread - is this the most expensive 18 BHP gain in the history of tuning ??

Must be
Have you thought about using the DeltaDash kit, or Performance Engineering AP22 to give an indication of power and torque? Fascinating thread going on here:

Enjoy tomorrow...
Cheers

Richard,
I've noticed you contributed to a number of threads on the bbs regarding piston slap on your MY00. Did you have it in the end, and if you did, how did you get it resolved?
I'm asking as I've been getting the impression since around the new year that my MY99 Sport may be suffering a little when cold. Definitely has that tapping noise at 1500-2500 rpm for the first 3-5 mins of driving. Not got a service planned until early April so I'm sitting it out at the moment. If I have got piston slap I'll be anoyed as its one of the reasons I stretched to a MY99 when I bought my Sport in 2000.
Ben.

Hi Ben,
Yep, and it's still making the noise, but it doesn't seem to be piston slap. Had the dealer look at it one cold morning, having left the car there overnight, and he was sure it wasn't (tried disconnecting spark plugs etc etc). It seems that what it might be, is the tensioner for the cambelt isn't fully filled with oil. Apparently there was a fault on some MY99/00 cars with this, but the trouble is that you have to take the cambelt off to check it, i.e. some hours of work. If you haven't yet had the cambelt changed (normally 45k miles, though some suggest 60k is ok) then I would advise getting it checked then. My cambelt was changed here by a Subaru dealership that doesn't seem to know it's backside from its elbow, and doesn't speak English, so I decided not to press the issue Never had any problems with it, I just treat it very gently when cold anyway.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys!
I've already had the cambelt done (March last year) so I'll just wait and see what the dealer says in April (Tiley of Bristol - who have seem really quite helpful, albeit expensive, over the last few years).
Hope last night was fun! Our office night out seem a bit of flop to me!
