Neil,

The crank has been paid for so waiting for Mark to get the next batch in. The KW V3s i ordered were the new (now probably funking old) 2 ways with the remote reservoirs on the damper body.

And yes Dunc it probably was this time, if not before last year and yes im still funking waiting having shelled out well over a grand for em, im not exactly happy.

Cheers Ross and Matt but ive gotta be honest in saying that my patience is wearing well and truely thin with it all and am yet to see any sign of any progress from anyone.

I know it would make plenty in its component parts.

The longer this goes on, the closer i am to going back to the RS marque and end up buying an escort or 3 door.

One sick and tired Frayz

Frayz, I`ve been where you are when I had my Gto. The endless broken promises, the anticipation of great things to come, that then fall flat on their face......but take it from me, the wait will be worthwhile. Things will start to come together gradually, then it`ll be time to drive it and the grin will stay plastered on your face for ages and best of all, you did it all yourself. Stick with it matey and you`ll end up with the country`s best scooby

Well ive sorted a few things and hopefully it will be sticking around. Ive swapped some things about and located a crank elsewhere. I should have a brand new EJ257 crank at my door first thing in the morning.

So with that said it looks like i'll be at least starting the bottom end assembly as soon as i get a spare minute.

This is a somewhat happier me

Also got a few other parts today,

ARP stud/nut kit

New clutch release and spigot bearings

RCM Modified oil pump

Fuelab billet fuel filter with -6an fittings

Genuine Subaru piston rings

Power Enterprises kevlar timing belt

Also picked up some new rocker cover gaskets today too. Still waiting on a fair few more parts but at least the list of "things to buy" is slowly getting smaller lol.

Well it was ordered yesterday on a "next day" so im assuming it will be here today but if not then it will be here tomorrow.

Will be nice to actually get started, although i cant do too much till my existing motor comes out. Then i gotta try and persuede dad to let me do a full motor build and swap at home...

Should be fun lol

Mark couldnt get one for a few weeks and openly said to go elsewhere if i wanted it on the double. So it was Mike and Jase @ Area52 that came to my rescue.

They had one on the shelf and got it straight out to me on a next day delivery.

Plenty more fannying to do yet Neil

Yes Dunc, always had great service from them. Even if its just a phone call for a chat about engines, turbos or even the weather lol.

Im looking forward to getting it built too. I think the plan of action will be..

Assemble new basic short motor - crank, rods, pistons
Pull the 2ltr motor and strip it of anything required for the build.
Send away my existing heads for machining
Re-mount the 2.5 block and continue the full build.

One guy on his own on the drive... should be fun lol

What you having done to the heads and who is doing the work?

Ported? I had a decent amount of work done on the inlet manifold and heads on my old 205 track car but I don't read much about it being done on Imprezas....

Oversized valves? I'm assuming Inconel exhaust valves.

At the moment its a case of seeing how much funds i have when the heads are off as to how far i go with them. Cams will make a bigger difference to me than any port work. Although i will probably do some mild porting on them myself.
As i'll be running a 2.5 with big torque, i wont need to rev past 7.5k so i'll hopefully keep the EGTs at sane levels that way. That will reduce the need for inconel valves at present mate, but ideally id be doing a valve swap to some larger items with some port work and cams.

Its all money at the end of the day and to get this far has cost me a monumental amount.

Gutted isnt the word. The pic i posted of the crank was taken at approx 1:30am this morning when i got home from work. I didnt have a proper look at it.

Now on inspection of it tonight when i was going to measure it up for the build i found it to be damged. It appears as though it has been dropped and when i measured the dimensions it was clear that the impact had also bent it.
It was clear when i opened it that it had not been previously opened since coming from the Subaru factory. It was also very well packaged from Area 52 and there was no damage on the box it was transited in.

I belive the damage done was done at the Subaru factory and so it now leaves me to call the guys at Area 52 in the morning to try and see if i can get a replacement.

As i build prototype engines for a living, i am always exceptionally careful with parts. I also got some of the old hands from my build area to check the crank over with me.

Gutted... but hey, sods law i guess. Ive done my stressing about it. Lets just hope i can get it resolved.

FFS!

I'm sure Mike and Jase will do all they can to resolve the matter.
(Though would prob be good to discuss it with them before posting up on the forums?)

Chin up.

I cant see a problem to be honest Neil as its clearly nobodys fault other than the Subaru factory. It was very well packaged and in a sealed bag. So its impossible for it to be anyones fault this side of the water.

I have no doubt in my mind they will see the photos ive sent them and agree with me.

Its just a shame, but as said, i cant get stressed over it. Hopefully it will be sorted without fuss.
