Default Hawkeye key problems

Hi all im new to impreza and the sigma alarm system.
I only have one key so just want to know what i need to get or find out?
seen some uncut keys on ebay etc so will just get one but not sure how to encode it? got the sigma pdf, also dont have the code for key? how can i find it out been told i can give my vin to subaru and they can or it should be on the curcuit of the key?
just want to sort it the can set the system properly think the key is going every now and again i have to prees the button on the key so it will let the engine start.
Serched but kinda confused can anyone help give me a simple explanation?

Subaru can tell you the pin code based on vin but only if it has not been changed. If it has been changed then I think they can reset it.

The immobiliser times out fairly quickly so if you unlock the car but not start it then you have to press the key button again once ign is on.

Just incase you didnt know.... If you unlock the car and take longer than 30 seconds to start it. It will immobilise, this is overidden by turning on ignition pressing the button on the key and turning over. When you press the button the red led will flash once by the dash clock. I think this setting can be changed from the keypad.
