Tribeca Key
Hi,
Recently bought a 2008 Tribeca, which the wife is really enjoying. The problem, well I don't know if it is a problem, is that it came with only one key as shown in the pictures.

I have a couple of questions:
Is this a Standard Tribeca Key? doesn't look like the key in the owners manual!
Also if I want to get another key made the Subaru dealer quoted me about £145 for the key and 90 quid to get it programmed, which is a rip off. So could I import one from the States where they look pretty cheap and get it cut and programmed in the UK, (still a cost but would save me money) I bought the S5 model, which I do't think has keyless entry, although not sure.
Any other idea's on how to get a extra key would be great.
Thanks

The key shown is standard Subaru UK supply and incorporates both the OEM immobiliser transponder and the CAT 1 Sigma Alarm fob circuitry.
Getting a key from the US would still require coding to the immobiliser (assuming it has the transponder) and you would still need a fob for the alarm.
They do come up on Ebay occassionally but you would still need to get a new blade cut, and the OEM transponder coded. The Sigma alarm coding part can be DIY.

The reason I thought it wasn't the orginal key is the way the Subara behaves.
I unlock the car and then if I jump in and start the car it fires up, but if I unlock the car and put the kids in there seats in the back and then go and start the car it seems the immobiliser has come on. I then lock and unlock the car and start it.
Is this normal for a Subaru? or a Tribeca?
Still would like a cheap key will keep an eye on ebay.
Cheers

Just taken this from the Sigma M30 manual as I suspect its what is fitted to the Tribeca...........
If, in both cases, you wish to start the vehicle after the dashboard LED has extinguished
(which indicates that the automatic immobiliser has re-set) turn on the ignition, give the
radio transmitter button a quick press, then start the vehicle within 30 seconds (dependent
on programming). You may repeat this switch ignition on press radio transmitter
button start vehicle sequence as often as you like. Alternatively after the dashboard
LED has extinguished, arm then immediately disarm the security system, then start the
vehicle
