Does the vehicle have an alarm system installed?

Do you need an insurance approved tracking system or is this for your own piece of mind?

What vehicle is it for?

Sorry for all the questions but they are relevant.

There are a couple of options...

Toad TextAlert which is an addon for alarm systems and allows you to send a text to your vehicle which can activate an immobiliser circuit. It can also be used as a tracking system but as it uses the sim card to track, it isn't fantastically accurate..

Clifford Callguard 2.1. This does everything the TextAlert does but it also has a gps antenna. This increases accuracy and can be used as well as the GSM tracking via the sim.

These are not insurance approved systems and the only major running cost is the call charges for the text messages. £20-30 a year should cover most peoples usage (120 texts at 25p each). There is a charge for using the GSM tracking of both units but this varies from site to site. Any site which is capable of tracking a mobile phone can be used.

The Noble was fitted with an I_mob system that did just about everything you could want. Speed alerts via text, shut-off, you could even listen in on conversations in the car. Or talk to them if wanted, never tried most of the settings but did immobilise it while on holiday.

The I-mob is a pretty good system. The only thing that lets it down is the price. It's extremely expensive

With i-mob systems it is NOT possible to immobilise a moving vehicle
Thats a bit naff isn't it?

Yeah I appreciate the safety aspect and all, however isn't that something you'd maybe like to do.
Let the b@stards get a mile down the road and then immobilise the car?

TBH thats just bad wording, when the car does stop not like it wont, it will then cut out and not restart.

So what does it mean then?
When the car stops by use of the brakes will it then immobilise itself or does it need to be switched off?

The ignition needs to be switched off, which then activates the immobiliser circuit.

You see it reads to me that the ignition need to be off - which I don't think is so good.

Coming to a rest might be marginally better, however the way I see things it's my car and I want it stopped

Im not 100% sure about the Imob but if it is Thatcham TQA accredited then it almost definitely not immobilise when the vehicle is in use.

With the callguard 2.1 there is a module available which will cause a fuel pump immobiliser circuit to activate when the vehicle speed drops to 10mph. This will cause the car to shut down and a second immobiliser circuit will stop the vehicle from being restarted.
