Default Extra Key

Hi All,

I contacted my local Scooby dealer to get an extra key for my import 1996 legacy GT. What they are supplying is just a bare key with no electronics, will this start the car or does it need a chip in the key?

Any help much appreciated

Regards

Mark

It will only open the doors. It won't start the car. The local dealer told me that they needed a key number in order to program the key. They don't have information on EU imports and I don't have the number.

Oh well, nice to have consistent responses!

I'm going to get the key as I want to have something that will at least get me in the vehicle. I'm probably going to get a Clifford alarm fitted so that should take care of the remotes end of things.

I was having an off day The newage keys can be cut but without the code, it will only open the doors and not start the car.

Pre 2000 can be cut and coded.

subaru's from about 1998 onwards have a transponder that needs to be coded so the car will start.

OK, I got the key, it's a 1996 Model and the key opens the car and will start the engine. However the locks on my car are reasonably worn and it's difficult to to open the door although it locks fine , the dealership suggested using a wire wheel on the ket if that happened, but I haven't had a chance yet.

The key doesn't have the infra red remote on it unfortunately. I'm thinking of getting a clifford alram anyway so infra red remote doesn't bother me too much/
