Having just moved houe, I now have electric opening doors, nice I think. Only problem is that the door is only held close by the motor that works the door. What third party products can I use to secure the door more securely.

Markys, i have seen a clamp in the security section a few months back, it simple books onto a bracket on the floor and clamps the door down tight. ask at your local garage door shop

I recall reading somewhere (?) that a baby alarm alarm system provides good garage security.
You know the sort of thing....when the baby needs feeding or falls out of its cot you can hear it crying. I think these can be purchased to run off the mains or battery.
Never tried this but I guess it makes sense.
What do you think??

I got a matched pair last year (double garage door) for £35, I think. They do the job, especially with electic garage doors...

Den,

No pic, but from the outside it's a barrel lock that's visible, that's all. Have a look at the website above and you'll get the idea of how it works.

Nick.

Question

Hi Nick -

I presume that the lock attaches to something the other side of the door, that is bolted/embedded in the concrete base of the garage floor? Is that right?

Spot on. The arm thingy rotates into a lump you put on the floor. Use two for large garage doors.

anybody thought about the removable vertical posts as well???
at least if they get in they have to spend more time trying to get out and away..

also, is the stoppa easy to DIY fit?

cheers,
brad.

Stoppa takes me about half an hour to fit one. The first one took longer to work out what goes where. Included in the pack is the drill bit you need, and the grinding bit, rawl plugs, screws... everything
