Anybody going to the Jim Clark Rally on Saturday ?

If you have never been I highly recommend it. The speeds on closed public roads are unbelievable

We are going to Eccles and Swinton stages. Eccles stage you can get a good mid stage point and Swinton you can stand on a hill and see 1- 1.5 miles of the stage. Both stages are run twice and both are within 1 mile of each other.

For flat out fast action pick a stage where a section of the stage includes a major road as when the top boys are flat out round sweeping corners on a 2 lane road , they drift and use every inch of the tar , quite spectacular to watch

We will be a three car convoy from Ayrshire. Green MY99 , WRC blue MY01 (straight out of S&S) and a green Disco.

I'm working in Rally HQ in Duns - we're doing shifts so I'm hoping to get out for a look at a stage sometime!

Hi Ian,

We're doing well.

How about we meet up in Edinburgh on Saturday morning and head on down to the rally together.

It looks like the stages starting at around midday are pretty good.

Anyone else interested ?

Andrew.

Anyone else wanna come along, there's surely got to be more interest than that shown so far ...

The Ayton stage is very good, they come down to a cross roads that is split down the middle, take a small loop, then appear at the other half of the cross roads. See them twice in a minute or so.

A lot of the stages are missing this year, due to the foot and mouth. Also you are not allowed go into any fields for that reason, but you are also technically not allowed to walk along a stage once it has officially been closed. This is because an act from Parliament is needed to close the roads, and once they are, then there is no liability insurance in place. So you could be arrested for walking along the stage road. It won't happen, but a marshal tried that with us last year, and was told to F**K OFF.

Anyway chance your luck for driving down a stage, after it has been cleared and closed but obviously before the rally cars start.
We managed that a few years ago in an Impreza, flashed some press passes to the marshals, then went for a blast. Road totally empty and all the straw bale chicanes in place. Excellent.

I will be there from Friday, but staying in Kelso that night. Maybe see you about.

David
