did the rounds for some importers today
had a car i wanted to go see near fraserburgh so i thought id make a day of it. went out to see it and to be honest i was bitterly disappointed!
5.5k for a standard tired P reg uk turbo which needed a fair bit of work (and i didnt bother asking for the keys)
so thought id go see the lad @ indy car sales. had a look around......of course the cars have no prices......but some have details.
he came over and spoke and to be honest he was nice enough to have a chat with. he prides himself on selling cars that people want to buy.....and sees £££££££ not people. he had a few fresh imports which i was interested in buying as they were. but he wasnt interested - he only wanted to sell modified. so he gave me a NTI price for a K reg impreza wrx with front lip white wheels and a high wing rear spoiler. the total for this car came to £6995 (but he did offer finance)
so i thought id try brian downie. went and had a look round W reg uk turbo for 9k. N reg sti for 9k. 92 wrx for 7k so i didnt even try to talk to the guy.
anyone else even bother with traders??

Cause there are people out there, that know the deal and want warranties....the biggest killer for a trader!!
Remember, many people will run these cars on normal unleaded and when it goes pop, they expect the warranty to cover it.....and i imagine it usually does!

you a trader? lol
i just find it sooo hard to believe that traders can make up prices that are SO expensive.
are imprezas the only cars doing mods makes more expensive?
my british modded cars have been worth **** all..........

Thing is..Aberdeen and Perth are the top 2 places with tthe most Impreza in the country. But these Traders STILL INSIST these cars are rare and are worth every penny.
I was looking at selling my Version 6 STi RA V'Ltd with minor mods and 35K on the clock for £10,000. Better than the Traders deal, I can assure you!

who buys old imported cars for double their worth and then pays finance??
Having said that, the car looked about 3 years old when I bought it (it was 10 years old) and those that have seen it always comment on its good condition for its age
I will only lose money if I sell, which I have no intention of doing.

Had the same experience with Indy car sales, about a month ago I went a saw a very nice grey impreza sti MY97, it had 42K miles minter!!! he wanted £14K HAHAHAHAHA
THe Guy: "this cars are very desireable and tuneable"....
ME: Yeah tell me something I don't know already...but £14k? I would get a bug eye or early age STi for that money...
The End
I also paid a visit to Bryan Downie.... same experience as the first post in this thread....

Just my pennies worth, but when i was looking i tried loads of places
Indycarsales - The guy was a total arrogant ****, wanted me to tell him how much i had to spend then would tell me if i would be 'able' to buy one of his cars......i told him if he couldn't just give me the price then i would look elsewhere.....so i was told to get off the premises and don't come back.....think the tosser doesn't get the concept of customers and customer relations.....heard a lot of horror stories since tho....
Brian Downie - has nice cars, but a bit pricey tbh
Mackay Trading - found their cars were high quality, but overpriced compared to others
CRD - IMO they are arrogant, they talk down to you and i found them more keen on getting finance and extras for mods than finding the right car
eventually i went to MVM in Cairnyhill outside Dunfrimline, the cars are very high quality, up to that of Mackays IMO and a lot better priced. The owner Charlie was a pleasure to deal with, spent time showing me the cars and giving me advice before i took a test drive, then waited til the one i wanted arrived in stock.........They gave me a good deal and happily fixed any probs i had, which included a full gearbox rebuild and replaced quickshift all under warrenty, with no quibbles or hassle at all. IMO its deffinetel worth going there for a visit and see the quality of cars and service availble......i would if i was ever after another import seriouly go there again

I got lucky with my first Scoob which just happened to be in Aberdeen. Second time around i knew what i wanted. The fact i only ever saw 2 for sale in six months helped me make up my mind i had to travel to get one... 1200 miles later.
My advice would be to decide what fits your tastes best (MY, UK/JDM etc) and then look only for those. I'd steer clear of traders as (like Dave says) anything they're offering in your price range will have been bought in so cheaply it won't be worth looking at.
Russells car seems a good buy but is out of your price range and i suspect you're looking for a UK due to insurance? Considered a fugly? Early newage WRX's are dirt cheap right now due to looking a bit 'different'. Things is they aren't a whole lot worse looking than an early UK Turbo, don't have the Classics image issue and are a whole lot fresher.

www.mvm-imports.com - I bought a wrx from Charlie - excellent to deal with and wouldn`t hesitate to use him again - I think all the horror stories were from when it used to be Sports Car Services - I just about got shafted by them when they were based in Cowdenbeath.

at the end off the day thou any dealer who does not sell brand new cars which will create trade ins is only selling cars that have been either imported or sourced cheaply from auctions etc here in the uk, a good valet, a few mods and a warranty . In my mind its worth looking around the private adds first and the for sale boards on here are surely your best bet.

i think we all being pretty harsh on the dealers prices, they have to cover warranties, pay bills, pay wages and pay vat.....but if they are taking the pis5 with prices just buy private, you get tommet the guy/gal who owned it and see how you think they would drive it, and ask all sorts of questions

I bought mine from keighly-Trade-Centre.The car did have a few minor points and I have had a few issues with the after sales and warranty BUT I did get it at decent price and turned out that it has straight cut G/box.
I wouldn't buy off them again and I cant say I would advise anyone to buy from them that didn't have a good knowledge of Scoobs. However they do have a very good selection from Bangers to Mint,so if you know your Scoobs then they might be worth a look.
