Having enjoyed watching via the warmth of my car, where it was dry I have a few questions
1). What happenned to the other 3 seasons we normally experience? It seemed to be we were stuck in the monsoon season
2). Compliments to the 106 Gti driver on putting in an impressive display, it was always interesting watching it slide sideways around the right hander after the start finish straight.
3). Just to say I hope the 5 door did not do any serious damage following its off at just before the right hander, was concerned as it was lucky not to roll after sinking into the soft grass sideways BTW are all five door drivers mad, or did it just seem that way?

I'm the '5 door'.
Everything was fine with the spin, but you are correct -could have been tricky -just dipped the clutch and tried to straighten out.Fortunately it was wet and I think that slowed us down.
I had just overdone it at Duffus on the same lap and clipped the verge crossing the apex! The car was a bit wobbly and I was actually just warming down when the tail just flipped(honest -ask my passenger).I think we had picked up some mud (clay)from Duffus and the wheels were out of balance.(Should have gone straight into the pits).Either that or I was going too fast, having kept one of the P1 s at bay for a few laps.
Great day, well organised and I think more fun in the wet!

I'm another 5dr (the Silver one) and having been trying to work out why the car decided to get all tail happy around some of the corners after the torrential rain. It's probably just my inept driving
If I remember correctly, there were 3 5drs - mine, a DBM and a Reddish Blue.
Roberto, which Scoob was you?

I was the passenger/guest to whom "Tobyholly" (that's some alter-ego) is referring. I witnessed the whole thing from the co-pilot's seat. The first off was a tad unlucky, but the second one (at turn 2) was quite a surprise to us both (and pretty spectacular). I reckon it was something to do with the huge clods of mud stuck to the alloys/discs/pads etc. No real danger (apart from the tyre wall which we nearly clobbered). Its about as much fun as you can have whilst fully clothed. Gus. Was that a standard Pug?

Agree. Nothing wrong with 5-doors, having had 2 myself.....
The 4-door does seem more poised though, just a bit more balanced. Perhaps just a tiny bit quicker (less weight).
IMHO looks a bit "harder" too.

Tobyholly,
I think it was you I was behind at Duffus when you had your off.
Looked pretty spectacular from Duffus,
glad to hear driver, passengers and car OK.
You seemed to be going into Duffus pretty quickly, but then I would think that being
a newbie to the track. I would have guessed your speed at 70-80 ?

Tobyholly, glad to hear no damage was done
Miles, it seemed all the 5 doors were a bit tail happy, car or driver? who can say
Mine was the silver MY00 - W***BGB which spent most of the day sitting up beside the cabin thing at the end of the straight so we could watch you lot, and the Sierras on (and in some cases around) the narrow track
The Pug looked standard, I assume someone around here must know for sure though.

I was the P1 you kept at bay. :P
I tried to get past you safely for a while (couple of laps or so?) but started to get alarmed that
a) you didn't seem to have seen me
b) you looked like you were going to fall off the track at any moment
c) if you did fall off you might take me with you
so to avoid getting myself blamed for "hassling" you into making a mistake and falling off the track, I drew back...
...and a couple of corners later, you did it all by yourself!!!
Glad to see that you were having as much fun as I was - and good that your car wasn't damaged in the off, too...

Nothing wrong with 5drs!
I seem to remember teaching a few 4drs a trick or two......
I managed to keep it on the track all morning although it was an interesting experience with worn RE010's.
The only apology goes to Cam & Paul Marshall, for getting in the way down the back straight. Three cars can go around the hairpin at the same time!
Highlight of the day, with Willie as passenger, was the two "hot" laps following the dry line on an empty circuit just before the downpour!
May thanks to John for organising, sorry to hear about your misfortune.
Best regards
Mark

Yes those moments of track 'emtptiness' where great!! and your five door certainly goes and you managed to keep it well and truely on the track
I had a really good time though was a little unnerved by a little 'piroet' (sp?) going through Duffus. Knockhill is a great place to learn how far you can go with the car.
I have had tuition before at Knockhill and would definely go out with an instructor again. Its amazing how quickly you forget all their words of wisdom
JohnS - would it be possible to organise a track day that is purely instructor lead? eg small group with one to one instruction. would anyone be interested?

Willie,
the trouble is that to get exclusive track access (even for a small group), means lots of money, and there's limited availability this year. I think your best option would be to do the performance driving course at Knockhill, where you do 25 laps of the circuit in your own car with an instructor alongside you at all times. Costs about £75 I think, and you are there for about an hour in total. Most of the people I know who have done this have said that at most there was only one or two other cars on the track at the time. Being of short duration, it means they can fit it in between other events (such as race schools when the briefings are being done) etc.

Strangely for a 5 door, it's on the track and facing the right way !
