Unhappy JEEZ OH!

Can;t believe this!

Just got car back a fortnight, after having gearbox refurbed.
Running smooth. Good.

Coming home from work today I spot another STI5 Type R coming the other way.
I think "Don't see many of these about".
Do a quick turn about at next junction and decide to follow.
He's sruck behind lorry and van on single carraigeway.
He pulls out to check for an overtake
It's then I realise he's "Up for a Head to Head"
I also think He ain't local because the road turns to Dualcarraigeway just 200 yds away and he's looking to overtake before the brow of a hill.

Any way we get to the twin stretch and we're off.
I'm following closely but safely hoping he'll pull in letting me unleash my cars full potential
hes not moving ,so i giv it a bootful and close to get him to move over.
Try again and then HOLY **** ! my engine hits limiter
I'm in 5th!aren't I ?
Check gearstick. yep 5ths in and i'm coasting with a box full of nuetrals

Bang WHoops there goes me clutch plate.!
ANd there goes my new playmate .NIce car BTW. Steel gray 5 Type R

Anyone here?

Can anyone recommend a good clutch plate that will take 350 torque
It was an AP organic(I Hope) that was fitted.

Steve.

Bad lucks coming to me in Spades of late But Hey I can laugh. (Can't I?)

Steve,

Sorry 2 hear that m8 it totally sux when that happens
When my last STi clutch headed for the resting place in the sky I did some searching round as i was in no hurry 2 fix it. I ended up fitting a Helix HD jobby. Not mad priced considering i got the whole kit (pressure plate, uprated cover etc) it`s guaranteed for 350Lbft when the whole kit is fitted and from my research was as far as organics go. The next option was a paddle clutch but after my previous experience of them i decided 2 give them a miss They are good clutches IMHO in fact I`ll be ordering 1 shortly for Callum as his RA clutch has gone t1t5 up.

Yeah, maybe he should spend more on driving lessons than modding the car

Dave
As it happens I still have the internals here (Still boxed).

JE Standard size pistons, Eagle "H" pattern rods +Moly rings

They had took about 5wks to come.

Drop me a line if this is the way you want to go.(You have many choices).

Was going to fit them But recent upturn in Personal circumstances has changed things somewhat.
To the effect that car will be FOR SALE in a month or two(After Proven clutch replacement)

Cheers
Steve

Hee Hee LOL! OZZY and SAXO BOY.
If I'd spent as much on lessons, as modding Think I'd be Schumakers mentor by now!
Think I'm OK (Don't we all).
It's just getting the right parts combination for the job.
Scoobynet is littered with broken bits.
Lets all share in the learning.(At my expense LOL!)

Pete Thanks M8 .
Sounds good to me. Mail me if you could get me one.

It was an AP organic(I Hope) that was fitted.
I think this happened to harveys and he replaced it with another AP centre , which has been fine since.

if you change brands keep the AP that is removed. I have a brand new AP here , if you wish to compare them to double check , if you suspect something else may have been fitted.

if you can see the car it has come out of , check it is standard and ask if it is mapped for UK if decatted/modded. remove the fuel cap to see if it has run booster(plastic usually discolours to orange) , which should have also helped to prevent det. the last thing you want is something that has detted for the last ????miles.

if it looks high mileage, rough or crudely tuned you might just end up with the heads. might be worth considering these in case it also goes **** up

new a1 autos is where the engine is. it is out of an sti6 that had a rear end smash, but there was no keys with it so cant turn it over. it was bought from universal salvage 3 weeks ago and the company mentioned above is a breakers yard. it comes with everything barr the alternator. i know it's a long shot and probably not worthwhile going for it, but it comes with a 30 day gaurantee it i should get it by the end of the week. i just have to sort out an oil pump asap. no matter what engine i go for, it's all a big **** off chance anyway.

steve,

I would price a new centre plate(probably about £100) before forking out on a complete kit , especially if your selling .

What happened to the oil pump there like?

Personally i'd think someone would have to be very ignorant to sell an STI6 engine for that, alarm bells should be ringing.

Btw, to 'hotwire' is not difficult , so you should at least get it cranked over ( i don't know anything about imobilizers on these though which will not let it run)........ Hopefully with some oil in it though

Dave

whoops, forgot which thread i was reading, didn't mean to hijack this....

Thumbs up

You are right T-uk.
But I don't know full extent of damage yet.(Suspicions of pressure plate?)However AP only rate there single plates to 310ft/lbs .
Think I'd feel better Knowing it was being sold fully capable of handling spec.I.E. Full package sale . No split. I know it's a loss but i'm a fool.

Steve.
