scooby or escort cossie????? discuss
#1
what would be the reason to buy a scooby over an escort cossie?
the escort is far better looking (especialy than those bugly ones)
if you buy an escort at 10-12k you will get more or less what you paid for it a year or two later..unlike a scoob which depreciates rather quickly
so come on then tell me
oh and dont hit me with "the scoob goes round corners better"... my escorts going round knockhill in under 60 sec with only a koni fast road kit on

LMAO.....
Seriously though never been as big a fan of the Escort cossie as the Sierra....yeh I know that dont make sense but hey I own a bugly as you call em
I think the scoob is more iconic than a escort also, less boyracerish etc etc......
But then I gotta admit , most would open a can of woop *** on me

Well, you've got over 500bhp, so you can wallow about on the corners then put your foot down and make up that time you lost by nursing your car through the bends Kev!!

spooks, the cossies hold their value so well i have a mint 3 door tucked away aswell as 2 escort cossies
grant you have been spending too long on SN if you think a scooby will outhandle a fast road kitted escy
brian c...not just afast escort the only panels they share are the roofskin and doors...they were built by karmann...therefore rust is not an issue
no 500bhp is not standard but very easy to get that out of a cossie....unlike a scoob!
who saw topgear last night?...the scoob was classed as a crock! that wont help the resale value either
next...

Yeah Kevin i wasn't being fair,it doesn't take a lottery win to get big power from a cossie unlike a scooby but i've a mate who had an STi5 with blitz exhaust and K&N filter and that was all it took for him to be beating 370 brake cossies and alike at crail. As for rust i was thinking of a monte that i know that anybody approaching would just walk away from

Folks
I could have bought an Escort Cosworth 4 years ago (even when the cossie was almost uninsurable around that time!) but I bought a brand new Impreza Turbo instead.
Why? Simply because it was more drivable, turbo came in progressively, not in your face (although some would prefer that way). I owned a Sapphire Cosworth before my first Subaru, it had around 380 BHP, rear wheel drive and it was murder driving round the town! It had an uprated clutch to cope with the power and after a 10 minute drive, I felt I had a left leg the size of Arnie's! Rust and Ford come in hand in hand, even for the Escort Cossie as they do rust like normal 1.3L Escorts (probably not so much but like others, I've seen rust on a few Escort Cosworths.)
BUT!!!!!!
I'm onto my 3rd Subaru Impreza (P1) and I'm still considering switching over to an Escort Cosworth. Been thinking about it since I got my first chance of owning one. I think it's just to say that I've been there, done that, bought the T-shirt but I think you've not lived until you've either driven or owned one. I even still buy Fast Ford magazine's for christ sake!!!!!
I think at the end of the day it's personal preferance, and I prefer not needing to rebuild my engine as often as I have hot dinners! Also making sure that the factory standard Ford door locks don't get smashed in as easily as opening Coke cans and being able to start the car with a fork!
Sure the cossies' are quick, beautiful and beastly at the same time, but I'll stand by my P1 (Limited Edition No.422/1000)
Cheers for the banter anyways

When I got mine there were 2 reasons:
1 - I could buy a new scoob for 14.5k or I could buy a many year old cossie for the same. Given my luck with second hand cars buying new made a lot more sense. Neither of which would really depreciate over 1-2 years.
2 - Insurance, the scoob cost half an Escort cossie to insure.
You'll get no arguements about the cossie being the better looking car from me, always been a huge fan Insurance is still stupid on them, every time I change cars I look at them but get put off when I'm being quoted 1700 or so to insure a stanard one. I'm paying almost a grand less to insure an estimated 350bhp RX-7.

Kev,
Surely u remember the 2 brothers that were bringin the 2 cossies up2 crail last year ? Claiming 400bhp on the blue 1 and 500bhp on the black one (or was it the otherway round) anyway as I recall it there were 3 scoobs, all in the region of 300bhp dyno confirmed that were blootering the 400 & hot on the heals of the 500 (andy`s was actually beating it) up the strip.
U know who`s scoobs they were (Andy`s, Daves & mine) and how we larf`d when the 2 scort corsets ended up on axle stands through broken transmissions Still got the pix 2 giggle @ now n then
Anyway u can`t polish a turd m8 and ford is to close to turd even in the spelling for me m8 I`ll stick 2 the scoob bud
Think u musta got the only good scort that came off the line.
Pete

It was only this year that I had 440 bhp, I've never had it round knockhill again since I fitted the FMIC and bigger turbo/injectors.
You can't compare depreciation on a 95 car with a 99/00 car.
If we shop around the autotrader you can pick up any amount of 94 scoobs for £4500. A cossie will be twice this.
So take the £4500 you have saved and buy some really tasty engine bits and go waste the cossie
Next you let the cossie owner spend 2K on upgrades to catch up but that lets you spend another 2K on a 2.5 short motor moving the scoob ahead again When you want to sell the scoob, you take all the expensive sporty bits off and sell em, then sell the car for similar money you bought it....easy

more of you are admitting to liking them than i thought
its the same as any performance car..there are sheds and good ones knocking around..so you will be starting to see some showing their age
as for a scoob of the same age being half the price...thats cos the cosworth is the more desirable car anyway you will pick up one thats been upgraded to 400bhp for about the same price as a standard one
pete there is no way those cossies were kiking out that kind of power m8..they didnt have the turbo,s to make that never mind the plenums etc they must have been exaggerating their figures
andy we,ll have to have a blast round KH next year..will be a good sport
heres a clip of my escort at crail if anyones interested..first race was an R1 i did a 10.6 and the second is a gsxr 1100..i did a 10.4 on that
if this isnt a clicky just copy and paste
