If Optimax is so inferior why did Dave Allan's STi 7 with Ecutek and sports cat Miltek do c.318 BHP on Optimax on the same day that the PPPs were struggling?
To blame the Optimax is really quite misinformed.
There is nothing wrong with the PPP, but there is more to this story than the wrong petrol.
My PPP supplying dealer recommended that I used NUL in my overboosting MY00 PPP to stop it overboosting rather than SUL.
It was their failure to resolve a simple problem such as this that made me learn how to sort it myself and go on to map these cars.

As some of you guys where aware, i'v had a bit of bover wiv my scoob.
A F Noble fixed the probs (errors) i had with the prodrive chip installation and the car is very much better, Now (flame suit) they recommended that i use BP SUL, as its the best fuel for this model.
So from the day i got it back its been sul and nothing but sul, so after getting stung fo £70 and 10 minuts at star performance these are the new improved figures.
BHP = 301
TORQUE = 288 ft
Ok the torque is a bit down but a massive improvment over tha last RR day.
So a question ? Do i continue to run SUL or change back to optimax?

Eh Chris?
Was going to sneak up to spy your run.
But couldn't find enough plasters to cover those chewed fingernails.
Good onya Mate.
Up on wednesday. Getting alignment done.
Cheers Steve.

Hi Martin,
They said thats what they use, and recommended it over optimax, as " in there words " it is a better quality fuel.
Cant argue about the result as my car made the 300 brake although it was down a bit on the torque.
But to try and balance the books i'm going to run optimax for the next two weeks, and chuck away another &70 and find out if there is any differance.
Not very scientific but then i aint no scientist.

Chris, good results mate.
It's an interesting debate, whether to Optimax or not. I've ran mine on optimax from new..2000miles and managed 275bhp/260lbs. Only change being a rather quiet WR Sport BB.
Any update on the group buy mate??

I'm not saying that optimax is an inferior fuel; I’m passing the thoughts of one dealer.
So you can pick your dummy up and give it a wipe.
I don’t know what fuel is better, that’s why I said I would try another run on optimax, just to see if it made a difference in my car.
My sti had a poorly installed prodrive ecu/chip and was showing several errors, hence the poor performance on the rollers.
Since my visit to nobles and having the errors removed the car is now doing what it should have done originally.
Now where the **** is "MY" dummy.

I never thought they where right for sure john, but in order for me to try out there theory i had to run the sul from the day the car left the dealer right to the rollers.
Now i'v done that.
Lets try the optimax and give it a chance, i'll book the rollers again by then I'll have done about 500 miles on the optimax.
However i'm not expecting any massive differance, lets see!!
Only kidding about your dummy! hope you found it (LOL)

SUL is reported to have a slightly higher calorific value, but with BP SUL I always found I needed to retard the ignition and lost power.
The other issue is consistency at Star. The difference you are trying to detect between the two fuels is probably less than the day to day error on the rollers. The temperature will be different on different days (and not compensated by the way Star measure it as they are not accurately measuring intake air temperature - hence the 30-60C adjustments you see which bear no real relation to ambient as probe placement is variable). The wheelbase may be slightly different, as will the force with which the car is tied down, the coolant, EGT, engine oil, transmission oil, tyre temperatures and pressures.
Wouldn't worry about the torque figure, as torque is not compensated for pressure and temperature like the P-norm is (from the P-eng).
At least your power is doing what it should now. Can the dealer produce any testing from Prodrive which supports the use of BP SUL rather than Optimax?
If I am not mistaken, AF Noble have some affilation or ownership of forecourt(s) at least in their immediate locality which may influence the advice they are giving you?

Hi John,
I understand what you’re saying about comparing fuels, and the problems with comparing small differences on the rollers.
If the dealer could produce any testing figures from Prodrive, I'D eat my computer.
I'll put the £70 towards the prodrive sping kit and run optimax until some bod comes up with the goods and proves everybody wrong.
Cheers
