Not massively scooby related but wanted to post this in ..
About 4 months ago, my wife and I both handed in our notices at work (well I took voluntary redundancy) and sold our house in Dalgety Bay so that we could move ourselves and our 1 1/2 yr old daughter to Aberdeen. My wife had had a small stroke
before giving birth (she is fine now 
) and since we have family up here we thought it might be a good move in the long run.
At the start of the week, my scoob was due an MOT (only centre cat left). I was still unemployed (4 months). We had no sight of moving out from the in-laws house
and it looked like we might have to give up on our new house that we had put a deposit down on. It was due to be completed just after Xmas and time was running out to sort the financial stuff out as no job - no mortgage - no house 
I'm a software engineer and it looked as though I was going to have to take the 4 pound an odd job stacking shelves at Costco just to earn some cash for Xmas.
Or so I thought ..
The scoob flew through the MOT. So making sure the centre cat is VERY hot does work. It wasn't even a scrape through either .. way below emissions levels.
I've got myself a proper job, back software engineering, OK so I've taken a wee bit of a salary hit from previous but I'm back earning and can now sort the mortgage out.
We've had an entry date for our house .. 19th December .. OK it's only a provisional one but it looks like we may be in by Xmas.
Amazing what a few days can do to your outlook and perception on things
... it's like being a different person altogether.
Looks like our gamble to ditch house/jobs is going to pay off

Oh, and I can get my car Ecu-tek'd at the Bridge Of Don soon .. how did I manage to wangle that .. about 5 mins from my new place of work ... I've defo got that Friday feeling.

I've got the same "down" feeling as you had as I am redundant at the end of the month and I can't get another job for the life of me! I have a mortgage to sort out for April and think I may lose out on my flat cos of not having a job...
I guess I know it just takes 1 application form to be accepted and it'll all change
Hope everything works out for you and you DO get into the new place for x-mas!

Mike16v, I have been trying SOOOO hard to get a new job since I handed in my notice in May this year. I registered with vast amounts of agencies (all hopeless) and phoned them week in-week out for news/to get their ***** in gear.
I approached all the companies I could find with an initial letter/C.V and followed it up with a phone call.
I called all my mates/anybody I could think of for help or contacts or introductions.
I did this every day for about 6 months .. then 1 phone call out of the blue from an agency I must have registered with (and forgotten about!), interview the next day and job offer the next day after that
Strange how things work out .. difficult to keep your chin up but you just never know
