Just got back from Blair Atholl Horse Trials late last night and am totally shattered this morning. 3 days of very hot weather (especially yesterday) and it would have been 4 days if it wasn't a little showery on the Thursday.
Did anyone go for a visit over the weekend??

Sarah,
how many rosettes did you take up the road?
Perhaps you could answer a question for me:
coming in Countesswells road this morning, I spotted a horse with a canvas type jacket, but there was a further bit going over it's head and covering the eyes. What's that all about?
No reason, other than I'm a nosey git, and it's the sort of thing I like to tell my daughter when we're in the car.
Thanks,
Mike.

The canvas type jacket is the horses rug and you get attachments for it that cover it neck and head - people usually put these things on to keep the flys away from the horse as when they buzz around the horses eyes they can cause conjunctivitis (sp?)which is not a nice thing for a horse to have but i think that making a horse wear that is stupid as it must be hot underneath it all.

Thanks for the prompt reply Sarah, very prompt in fact.... busy at work?
I pass Loanhead on the way to work, were you at the event there a few weeks ago?
Not that clued up on horses, used to be friends with a keen rider at school, but that's a good few years ago. I remember her talking about a New Zealand rug, is that the same thing?

I am busy at work actually - must of just been good timing for my reply.
I used to keep my horse at Loanhead but it was getting way too expensive to keep my horse there so I moved him to a farm in Bucksburn which is just great!
I was at the show at Loanhead a few weeks ago - there was a big one at the end of July and a 2 day show 2 weeks ago.

Some of the full neck and head rugs are also used to keep the horse clean before an event or to prevent it from rubbing the hair or mane off.
Agree that in this weather it must be uncomfortable for the poor horse!
