Styling places in Aberdeen
#1
I have just bought my first scooby - MY96 WRX - and I am trying to find somewhere in Aberdeen that will fit styling modifications to it (white dials for example).
....any suggestions??

There's not a huge choice of places in Aberdeen with the right experience. It depends what you want to do styling wise. For external stuff like spoilers, you are probably best going to a good body shop.
Some people use Brian Downie out in Kemnay for WRX parts and servicing, as Town and County (Subaru dealers) can't touch import models. A bit further afield, there's AWD in Perth, Falkland Performance Centre in Glenrothes, and even the ex Subaru dealers in Forres. For something like white dials, then I'd guess most competent local garages would be able to carry out the work, though a lot of owners have done these themselves.

To be honest, nowhere in Aberdeen really specialises in Impreza performance or styling parts. As John says Imprezas body wise are fairly easy to work on, so continue to use your friendly body shop.
Talking from personal experience, all the styling mods on my Impreza [1] have either been fitted by myself (and I'm a bit cack handed ) or by AWD and their bodyshop contact down in Perth. A good proportion of the bits I've got have been purchased off fellow club members in the Aberdeen area.
[1] Probably the most modified wagon in Aberdeen.

Many thanks for all your advise guys. This whole thing is kind of new to me, especially seeing as I only (officially) bought the car today!
Craig - do you have a telephone number for John Barrie...I can't seem to find it anywhere!
I have also just spoken to AWD and they gave me a stern warning about fitting white dial kits and the fact they may break the gauges. Roughly how much are they to replace and how likely are they to break??....

It's true that it is very easy to break the gauges, as I've heard of a few people have this problem.
It's not so much a problem with the bigger needles such as revs and speed, but the fiddly ones such as water temp and fuel are very easily dislodged and broken off. I believe there are slots cut in some kits to enable you to pass them over the needles, but it's still a fiddly job.

Ruth, its an easy job to do so long as you have a steady hand and a lot of patience (I have little of either and still managed it).
I do know that a duo of Impreza owners with modified cars in Aberdeen (naming no names but you will know one of them) are starting up BHP Developments in the next few months so specialise in performance/styling parts + fitting for excellent value
Miles, don't attack this post and you may get some very cheap parts!
Cheers

bazil,
Thanks for your suggestions. Only just got a chance to read your message - been off for a week enjoying my wagon round the country lanes!
The guy you mentioned called Liam is the owner of Glenburgie Cars in Forres. I visited him last week and got a load of spares from him. It's a great place, he imports about 4 cars a month from Japan so he has loads of parts at really good prices. He supplies AWD with loads of stuff.

Currently only scoobs as it is a hobby (ie low profits to me = good prices to you)We are more into low cost suply AND fitment of parts for subaru imprezas of all ages for those who do not have the time/energy to fit them and don't want to pay Aberdeen garages small fortunes to do it or are not sure of how to do it themselves!
But am interested in branching out if these is a "niche" for it
My brother is having trouble sourcing parts for his 1.8T Seat Ibiza (proper FMIC etc) and we have just supplied him with a Downpipe for his car - released 15 bhp as well!) so we are pushing that as well if it is worth the effort.
Finally remember that the pricing will be competetive once we are up and running BUT this is a hobby as both partners (Infinity and I) are still working offshore. Please remember this when you need things.
