...if the car's battery was getting low, I assume he explained to you that your alternator was not working.....and that you should never go more than a few miles from the house before replacing it ?

Not necessarily John.
On my own car i've had two failed car batteries replaced in my time of ownership but turned out to be the back-up battery of the alarm that was draining them.
Alternator was checked.
Scoty,
Handy thing having a Link..look on your tuning module with the car running and go to *volts* and see what reading you get. That'll confirm the alternator.

Curious...
You running a capacitor in your sound system Scott?
If it's quite a big system, fitting a 1 Farad capacitor will help bass notes and also help the life of an alternator cause the surges in current required for the bass notes can cause havoc with the alternator. Poor thing doesn't know if it's comin' or goin' Doomph, doomph, doomph...
Funnily enough, I know of someone that has an ideal capacitor handy.....

£200 for a battery would keep me up all night too
Alan, what is your policy on a fixed trial period, (brake and buy)
Trance, that's exactly what they recommended too
Thanks m8.

Alan,
I should probably phone you m8, but would you agree to give me short term loan of the capacitor, just to see if it's going to do what I need.
Remeber the BIG bump I get when I turn the stereo off, I think you said the capacitor would cure that.
That would be a good thing, because people always get a big fright when I turn the system off
I promise I'll buy it if it does the job, and if it deosn't, you will get it back in the same condition
