What oil for our winter?
#1
I am using the Motul 15/50 300v comp oil just now (through the group buy a while ago).
Is this ok to use in the winter up here?
I change my oil at the service intervals only (coz I have never changed oil myself and dont want to get it wrong).
Next change is in 2k miles.

I take it you're consern is with the Motul 15w number being a touch on the high side? IMHO it is borderline for the sort of temperatures we may experience on a winters morning up here but it doesn't worry me too much...it's what I use! I couldn't find any direct tech info on motul, but as a generalisation, 15w should still be a good performer down to about -8degC. A 10w or even a 5w would be better but Motul is a top quality motor oil and like I say, I certainly don't lose sleep over it!

I am no oil expert so IMHO..
I am leaving the MOtul oil in my car I don't think we see it go cold enough in the cantral belt to worry about it.
Actually come to think of it they will be changing it for more Motul at the next service which is getting damm close..

15 is not too thick for -10 then...
see that quite abit...
will just have to clear out the garage at last
had to put more oil in the car today
thats about a litre in the last 5.5k
2k to go b4 next oil service.
i dont like the car using up the oil...

Phil,
the oil will still work perfectly well in our Scottish winter temperatures. If my old Mk1 Escort with dodgy battery and weak starter motor was fine in - 12 degrees with 20w/50 oil in it, then I'm sure the Impreza will do just fine with 15w/50.
The high ester content in the oil means it will stick to the metallic surfaces, giving much better protection from cold starts anyway.
I'm leaving mine in over winter, and I've got no worries about it.

Hi, i changed from ow40 mobil to 15w50 mobil at last
oil change, and notice the car much quieter when warm
but takes a turn more when cold- last few days, and the
engine seems to be a little rougher untill warmed up.
But when warm, 15/50 seems quieter than 0/40????.
Cheers
