The later model 5 speeds are meant to be a little stronger. Only way to keep that sort of power not breaking gears would be a 6 Speed or a new gear set!! Im also in the same dilemma!

Alright I am waiting to see if my box is going to cope with the power too.but just like some people are saying better with a 6 speed box so I have been told but is it a straight swap?

Yeah pretty well, need to change the drive shaft (auto one fits). Heard u can use the 5spd clutch setup, but couldn't make it work on last conversion I saw done here! Some guys change the hubs too.

You could try a new age blob wrx box the blob has the advantage of being 100pcd so straight swap or even better a hawk wrx box, but that sort of power in a classic box requires a certain amount of mechanical sympathy, P1 box is said to be the strongest of the classic boxes, but if your going to drive it hard then you really want a 6 speed. My advice would be don't skimp and get a recon early 6 speed for piece of mind, i'd speak to david at API.

As banny says really.
I would add
If it is 94-98 TY752VN box you will kill 100s on them.
If it is a TY754VN it has a stronger casing and may hold up. I know people who had them hold up at your power level, a bit hit or miss.
(A JDM TX754VB wont be any stronger - I stand to be corrected. But pretty certain of that)
Some, my self inculded, do not like the ratios of the 6speed over the 5speed. But it is the bullet proof option, but the most expensive. Go for an 6 speed option that will match your R160 rear diff perhaps.
PPGs now seem to be cheaper, the strongest 5 speed option - so is an obvious route to take. Straight cut gears are noisy though. All though 5th can the weak one on them as that is left as standard sometimes.
Also it is torque not bhp that kills boxes - any idea what the max torque figure is
Hope this helps
Steve
