Default Radiator fans not coming on...

Hi, so I've just noticed my temp gauge is going past half and that the radiator fans are not coming on.

I've connected the green test cables and the near side fan comes on but not the off side fan, is this normal for only one to come on when the test cables are connected? I've removed the A/C so that wiring has gone so I'm assuming that's the reason that fan no longer functions.

I've located the the coolant temperature sensor just behind the alternator on the phase 2 EJ20 engine and unplugged the it and this causes the fan to come on, does this indicate that the issue is the coolant temperature sensor?

Urgent help required please, I've sold the car and it's going Sunday! Flipping typical.

Thanks
