Default probably one for the paint shop guys

hi,

the other day I decided to remove the "s u b a r u" letters from the back of my car along with the turbo 2000 awd stickers.

I had previously asked about the best way of doing this and was advised to use a hair dryer and take it steady.
I have managed to remove them without damaging/ pulling any paint off and used nail varnish remover to get rid of the sticky goo that was left behind.

trouble is that even after polishing the area and using t cut I can still see where they have been. its a bit like when you see a van that had previously been stickered up, stickers removed when the van is sold on and the outline is still there. additionally the paint where the stickers / letters have been looks a different colour? my car is red, (base coat and lacquer) 559? I think.

is this likely to improve with a good mop or is it going to need painting?

Im also wanting to remove the black strips along the sides of the car for that "cleaner" look but im worried that I may end up needing both side repainted.

advice please

Its possible that the sunlight UV has faded the paintwork around it..no amount of t cut will create a say 10 year sunlight fade on an area of paint

I doubt you'll ever be able to get it match up, but maybe a paint specialist as some good ideas?

I remove my wrx impreza badge from my 2002 bug 2 weeks ago came off easy but i had no chance to match up rest of the boot paint for sure.I try everything polishing off ,t cuting, etc no luck.As people say over that time paint just fade off so i ended up buying new badge and stick back on.

Red is a terrible colour for fading.
You could try a power polisher, but I don't hold out much hope.

And if you do get it painted, the new bits won't properly match the old

Get the boot painted would be your best option I think, buy a good painted or can do a good colour match

I have the car going for paint in the next month or so, initially it was going to be new rear arches (cutting out the rot and new metal going in) front and rear bumpers, lacquer peel on the rear spoiler and the bonnet scoop and vents. if I take the black strips of the doors down the sides, then that's potentially both sides to repaint.......which doesn't leave that much from a full re paint

im undecided yet, I have had quite a few quotes. all are from insurance approved bodyshops.
my first quote was £600 just to do the back arches and to be honest I haven't been back in touch with the guy yet re a quote to do all the bits mentioned at the start of the thread.
second quote was a £1000 for back arches then £200 per bumper then £100 to do the bonnet scoop and vents
third quote was £400-£500 for the back arches. this guys old school and was going to panel beat and fabricate all repair sections re the back arches. not quoted me yet for the other work. I've seen his portfolio, worked on masarati's, power boats, 50's and 60's American.......and looks good to be honest
finally I've had a fourth quote today £800-£1000 for everything as per start of thread

im beginning to wish I had stuck out for a white one as reds a right pig to paint and get a quality match

the other thing that's starting to grate on me is that what started off as an inexpensive car is going to end up having more invested in it ( paintwise) than its worth

at the moment I've only put £50 deposit on it while I've been waiting for my insurance money to come through after an accident last year. in theory I could pull out of the deal and perhaps give the woman a couple of hundred quid for her trouble? thing is she's local and we've been friends a few years now, so I don't really see that's an option. the annoying thing is that I got more compo than expected so I could have gone out with a £3.5k budget.
but hey, I only like the classics and with paint and bodywork sorted red is nice?

yes. he came recommended to me by a bloke I used to work with, who's now a used car dealer. the power boats are the ocean going ones.

he's not physically seen my car yet, but said he'd recently done the back arches on a classic Scooby and knows the rot issues. I asked if he'd want me to supply a pair of front wings and he knew straight away about reversing them and using them as repair sections for the back arches, but said they make everything themselves, panel beat their own repair sections. told me £180 per side, so allowing for a bit more £400-£500. he sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

its scott at autokolour bodyworks in riddings..........do you know him?
