Are you staying with using the MAF sensor, if so keep to the original recirculating dump valve. Before fitting the panel filter give it a good dabbing with kitchen roll to remove excess oil as this will affect and eventually knacker the MAF sensor.
What size exhaust are you going for as too big is not too good, have you thought about MOT time with having a de-cat??

Your clutch and your going to the start stressing the injectors. Your brakes and suspension will also begin to show there age.

Sort the brakes, get a good chassis setup, beefier clutch and decent tyres to enjoy the power. 270bhp is plenty on UK roads unless your into number chasing and traffic light GP's.

I have a Wrx 2005 with about the same as you mentioned above, but with a prodrive sports cat. Its running very nicely at 285bhp at 1.3bar boost, mapped by Racedynamix. This is a safe setup but as The Trooper said you will put brakes/clutch/gearbox etc under strain if you push it a lot or if you constancy launch the car off the line. Even mapped to 260 it will still be fun. Just depends on your driving style.
I just wanted the most out of the std turbo.
