Quite surprised who quick these things are, had a bit of a play the other day* and although wasn't beaten, can imagine one of these having the edge at higher speeds.
* On a private road, of course.

I was obliterated in my Blob STi PPP outside Blackpool by a 335d that caught me off guard a while back, yet the same car was able to hug the rear bumper of an E92 M3 on the toll a few days later.
Though performance figures suggest a huge difference, if you get a car that does a standing quarter in say 12, and another that does it in say 14, then if the slower guy boots it a second before the other does a or just a lot harder - then there's not going to be much in it. And it'll require a lot of distance to show the true performance advantage!
Add in the fact that most Imprezas are manuals and many require a hefty spool and the majority of big engined German cars are DSG/CVT autos, it's not surprising they will have the edge if they catch you off guard.
I'd be very interested to see something like the new Golf R vs a Bug or Blob STi PPP, it's taken over ten years but it would appear the peripheral mainstream is starting to catch up.

In reality in standard form they have never been that quick. Its only when you modify one to over 400BHP that the fun begins, & you need about 500BHP to be sure that you can keep most modern cars at bay.
I see 3 problems with this.........
It's a bmw so you will always be thought of as an arrogant ****
It's a diesel and as fast as it is there is no real respect or street cred given, certainly not a head Turner and looks daft when booted as it billows smoke from the back
Good luck with 400ftlbs and rear wheel drive in the wet/snow ice etc

I expect the only thing that the scooby would win is the race to the bottom in depreciation. Big diesel engines have huge amounts of torque and at motorway speeds a 2l or 2.5l petrol turbo wouldn't stand a chance.

Good luck with 400ftlbs and rear wheel drive in the wet/snow ice etc I'll let you have that one. Although winter tyres probably make a world of difference.

So you are saying we need a car with Ferrari 458 power to keep a quick diesel at bay?
I think a lot of people on here could do with some advanced driving lessons!
The 335/535d when remapped are a fast car, i had a go with one in my Type r a few years ago and it was very tight indeed, the same type r used to pass E46 M3's with ease...torque wins races, bhp sells cars.
Ferrari 458 pah! Ditch kept one of them very honest in his trusty Rover. 😄

The problem with the automatic gearbox is that Bmw have produced them as a sealed unit and claim they are life time free from oil change but the truth is they need the oil changing after 80k and that ends up setting you back 500-600 as a new sump is required for the box.
They're diesels so who cares. Diesels may be cars that perform, but they are not performance cars. There is more to it than just being quick.
The real moral is there will always be someone faster than you so just enjoy what you have for what it is!

As Shreksta said.
My mate's got the 3.0 v6 jag xf diesel, awesome car, My old wrx could not beat it.
Now in my type r, doing a standing start its left behind but once moving harder to pull away from.
Just has to be pulled out of the snow every year by my Scooby.

I have always joined forums for the various cars i have owned because of the invaluable advice, so heres the question i am thinking of buying a hks super bov i know all they do is make a noise and offer no performance benefiit.
but on searching threads in the forum there is differing opinion on dump valves so will it damage/upset running of my car or not?

Can I go for both?
