Hi guys can you pleases help i recently applied for a log book for a classic 1997 sti i bought and they sent me a letter saying i need to take photos and send them the VIN number the first number i sent was the engine type which was wrong but there is another number above which i noticed says vin starts with GC8 and then 6 numbers is this one correct i thought VIN numbers were about 17 characters please can someone tell me where to find the correct number .

Not sure if all or any of the Jap imports had the full 17 digit vin number, I know mine does`nt, It just has a chassis code as in GDB and then the 6 digit chassis number, Take a picture of both plates on the strut tops and send it to them, Although it should have already gone through an SVA test so they will already have the chassis number on their records, More than likely they are checking to make sure its not a cloned/ringed car

passenger side suspension turret. starts gc8 then a "-" then 6 digits.
