Default Spec D hawkeye, or STI UK blobeye ?

Been on the hunt for a while for a clean sub 60k mile blobeye sti PPP (05), but there doesn't seem to be too many around for sale at the right money. There is an 06 spec D up though, sub 60k mile and prices keenly @ £9k, are they really that bad ? I'm buying a subaru and I want to keep it for a while so I need to make sure I get the right car.

Same as an STi but with sound proofing, small spoiler and different interior. It was designed for the more mature boy racer

Hawks are good cars but the 2.5's have weak engine they suffer with hg's and Ringland failure but once forged they are bullet proof and are fantastic

Spec Ds are fine if the Hawk floats your boat.

Bit more refined and generally a nicer place to be.

It is, just not the car for me. Not had it that long (less than 12 months). I should of bought an impreza instead. I got the 300bhp Revup model, looks great, goes well but just not the car for me.

Get the blob. If you're looking at £9k spec D's then your money will go a long way in the world of blobs. There should be plenty of 60,000 milers and under.

I've had my 07 plate Spec D for about 18 months now, and I love it.

The stealth / sleeper factor is good too. No badges, silver alloys, and only 300 made - it's a shame they weren't numbered though.

Check the reg date, some 06's fall into the lower category for road tax. I think the cut of was 6th March 2006, after that it's now £490 I think (mine was £475 in Feb last year)

Oh well, soon we wont have to display discs so you wont see that rip off tax every time you wash the car!

Paid a lot less than 9k for my hawkeye sti with 50k on it so they are out there you just need to spend the time waiting for the right one to turn up

Went to look at a Spec D, there was a blobeye next to it (although that was only a WRX) but I think its made me want a hawkeye more now :/.

Does the PPP matter if you're going to mod anyway ?

I do prefer the front of the hawkeye though it looks more modern, but I cant help but think il be worried about buying one, and it going pop. I was looking into importing last night but thats a minefield too.

05 blob sti all day long. Cheaper tax, less likely to fail and very similar inside to the hawk.

I love it when people mistake mine for a boggo WRX.

If you're after a Spec D, get a compression test done and also check if it's had a HG replacement, as this is another issue with the 2.5's

If it bothers you that much you can always shell out a few quid on a Hawkeye front end conversion.

If you plan on tuning then the PPP doesn't matter, though it's a nice thing to have.

I love my spec D though i paid a lot lot less than 9k and that was last year with 65k out of a dealers, cosworth gaskets and its lower tax group

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18...ps00e27e0e.jpg

Would i have a blob widetrack over it? Probably not, im at an age now where i want something a bit more toned down lookswise but still has the performance

DO NOT assume that a car having had the HG done will be ok, I had mine done at 50k under warranty 30k later it had gone again car is on SORN while I save up to do the job properly eg. Forged

Not necessarily, you'll get a great job somewhere like Stan Palmer.

I've known of a few have failures because they've not been done properly!
