Default hav i found my tracker?

i came out of work this morning and went to check my oil, went into the boot to get a rag which i keep in the cubby hole where the scissor jack is and was feeling around for it and felt a large heavy object dangling in the inner rear wheel arch area! it was wrapped in bubble wrap and sellotape which i pulled off to reveal a heavy square box with a screwed on cover and a wire leading off from the front towards the front of the arch? i have paperwork with the car for an rac trackstar fitted when the car was new so is this what this is? from the threads ive read its usually behind the dash? it also explains the bloody clunking sound from the rear end when going round corners which i was thinking was the rear shocks knocking!
