Question

I have just fitted a pipercross induction kit and magnex back boxto my 93 wrx ra ,naturally I went for a blast but.....when I floored it with my hks evc4 set at 0.95kg per cm3 (highest setting) all the boost dropped at around 4000 to 4500rpm quite dramaticaly. Right then I thought its the old wastegate solenoid thingy so I'll do a search on the scoobynet bb,then I realised that this has been bypassed by the evc4(is this correct?) also last week itopped the oil up right too the top, now I read this is a bad thing to do .when fiddlng with the air filter I noticed a little oil in the ducting just behind the air flow meter(have i over filled)so can Ic clean the hks unit the same way as the solenoid or do I book it in to a specialist for a "looksee" if so who, I live on the wirral ( can any body recommend a 4WD rolling road near to me)

John, if it was ok just before you fitted the induction kit/ exhaust then, although its not a good idea to fill the oil to the top, it could just be that the extra air flow is upsetting the maf. The ecu has a boost cut if the maf signals "excess air" I believe. This is in addition to the boost pressure cut. If the car is now boosting more due to the new goodies then this also could have triggered the boost cut.

Have you a boost guage ? If so check out the way the boost is coming in etc.

No harm at all in cleaning the solenoid and pipework out, could indeed just be that.

John,

When I fitted the Pipercross induction kit to MY97 WRX I had exactly the same problems, power just went flat at around 4000-4500 RPM.

I spoke to some rally guys and they sugested that the cone design on my car might introduce turbulence to the inducted air causing flat spots and power loss.

So I changed to a HKS Megaflow kit and it's now excellent....smooth power all the way.

Just a thought!

Gethin.
