Yup... but they look gash haha... I should have been more specific I was leaning more towards after market wheels... I.E My UK300 comes with 18" wheels as standard I believe? Just wondered if anyone runs things like Rotas/XXR's in 17's or if they are always 18's?

I run standard Sti rims with 235/45/17 and it drives nice and handles well. I've just switched to 18" and 225/45/18 tyres and it drives horrid compared. Seems skittish and hard, I'll be switching back shortly.

The size of the wheels have nothing to do with filling the wheel arches, in fact it will look worse due to the larger alloys and smaller side profiles highlighting the large space. The only way to reduce the wheel arch space is to lower it.

It's like everything Imp related, nobody really knows, half the workings were designed by robots. Do what you feel looks best, in my experience the lighter the alloy the better..

^^ the first scoob Prodrive offered an 18" wheel on was the P1 was`nt it and that was an option part in the WR package, So in otherwords you can buy some 18`s off us and we will tell you they are better than the ones that the car was developed with...IMO whatever they came from the factory with works well, Just get better rubber and decent suspension, If you like a spirited drive 17`s all day long...18`s are too harsh for our $hite roads with a 40 profile on a heavy car

If you stick some big brakes on then 18" are the only way forward sometimes.
It's all a balance, a set of 18s on a firm suspension setup will feel horrid. Tyres are important too.
The worst riding car I have owned was my Spec D on 17" Enkeis and RE070 rubber.
I have been in a Bilstein-fitted newage car with 18" running Toyo Proxes T1 sports and the ride was fine.

Im running 18" alloys on my 350bhp blob sti with 225/40/18 goodyear excellence tyres and have had no trouble with them, the cars still super comfortable to drive and handles like its on rails too.

I actually think I prefer my car on 17's rather than 18's.
I've got 18" PFF7's as my "daily" wheels and use OEM Enkei's with R888's for trackdays. Because the R888's are 45 profile rather than 40 on the PFF7's, I think they fill the arches out nicely and the car looks more "racey".
I'm thinking about swapping the PFF7's for some 17" wheels when my tyres are ready for changing.
17s...
18s...

I run 225/45 on 17s for my winter rubber and 225/40 on 18s for the summer. Apart from the obviously different characteristics of the two tyres I find no difference in the ride on a 2006 WRX Hawkeye with stock suspension

On an Impreza? With 250-300bhp and 4wd, you are worried about fuel economy?
I'm sure you can get economy only tyres that will fit, but they will have zero grip when you need it, such as an emergency stop or if you have to drive in snow.
