ok long story short looking to get myself a scooby next year now im looking at classic version love the looks but need as much info about differences early version compared to late any extras e.t.c also want people advice if to get a wagon or a saloon only thing can say for sure needs to be turbo cheers all

 

Hatch is the most practical
99/00 modle is the newer face lifted ones and had the best looking front end especially with a lip spoiler
Lots of rubbish around though as the last of the classics are 13 years old now
Occasionally an odd low mileage one comes up for sale on here at big money £2500/£3500 which is worth it as there is so few left now
Next years NBO I predict there will be as few as 30 in 300 scoobys
The purists will be in later to discuss the jap versions and special editions

What is your budget ?
Look out for the rear arches as most are going rusty

I have had both saloon and wagon classics (2 of each). The saloons are nice but the wagon was more practical for carrying things. It is a buyers market out there on Impreza's atm so be wise and cautious. You will see many selling cars under false claims, always check the model number first so you should know whether someone is trying to take you for a ride or not. There is something on these forums somewhere (search button)

As a rule of thumb, the import WRX & sti classics are less prone to having rusty arch issues.

If you do happen to find yourself a good one, you'd be well advised to clean the underside up and re-apply generously with fresh underseal to make sure it stays that way for years to come .

£2000 buys an average UK classic
£3000 - £3500 buys a mint UK classic

£3000 buys an average Import STI
£5000 buys a mint import STI

Factory in £2000 minimum for an engine rebuild, £700 for a gearbox rebuild, no more than 22-23mpg and you will know if you can afford it.

I take it that you have already had quotes for insurance?

 

Only if they've been imported in recent years. If they've been here 7 years plus and run in all weathers, they won't be any better.

 

I've had 2 of each , had my saloons prior to children but got my last wagon as it was cheap and all the saloons I found were ****

This wagon was perfect for my use and still is , I like the idea of a high power wagon personally as I like the stealth look

 

Not strictly true. My last black WRX saloon had rusty rear arches, but the silver WRX I have atm has no rust what-so-ever

It is a case of being looked after and treated properly.
