Speedo cable, check it's connected behind the clocks and at the gearbox end.
Gearbox end is near the dipstick for the gearbox, and well you know where the other end is. Stick your hand up behind the dash.
OT, I'll have a proper look at that splitter tomorrow, been busy with work and stuff.

Tried both of those mate, speedo end is a right pain. Took it for a drive and still wouldn't let me go above 4500 and engine light is on. Last throw of the dice is disconnect the battery, supposed to be at oulton tomo

if the speedo is not working then it will go into "limp" mode and limit revs to 4500 as you are seeing due to their being no "speed signal" received by the ECU..........
generally it has either snapped one of the 2x parts of the cable or the speedo convertor is playing up (if fiftted)
