Default Couple of questions before remap

Hi chaps just want some advice before mapping my bug wrx.

Heres my list of mods.

td05 16g
sti tmic
K and N panel filter
pink injectors
3 port boost solenoid
walbro fuel pump
fully decated cobra exhaust system
sti up pipe

Now im thinking of buying a top entry td05 16g and getting it converted to front entry by a welder.
Will this be ok to fit my bug ?
Will my headers be ok standard or do I need to port them ?

thanks
lofty

Hi Lofty

All that sounds ok, but be careful with welding the compressor cover, as it's likely to distort. You'd be better off with the right turbo. Your headers will be fine, but ported ones can't hurt.

How come you want the TD05 16g??? isnt this the standard turbo on the pre-98 classic STi's????

Seems like a lot of work if you want to convert it, especially when you can pick up a VF35 and it will be a straight fit and it will spool a lot better then the old TD05, and get the same sort of power!!! Only had experience with the TD05 20g and I found it quite laggy on a 2.0 litre!!!

Dont think the 16g is that laggy.

Tdo5. £80
There pretty strong turbos i heard.
I know someone who had his bug mapped today on a td05 hes well happy transformed his car.

Im guessing TD05 16g mapped with those mods 320-330bhp???:

Shame you dont bite the bullet and get a TD05 20g, shame to not get the most out of those pink injectors!!!

Post up your figures when its been mapped!!!

Nice list of mods Lofty, you'll end up with a very punchy car with roughly 320 ponies. It'll be transformed !!!

Just use a decent metal fabricator to mod the turbo and you'll be fine.

Plenty of front entry TD05 16G's about....as you say tough critter.

I ran my Bug WRX with those mods at 325 BHP plus ported headers......... but with better brakes and eibach's. Great fun never thought anything was going to break or that the car was trying to kill me

Happy days............

Shaun
