I fail to see how any of them make any money out of this sort of thing, anyone with a basic command of english can see straight through the very poorly worded grammatically incorrect sentences, and that's before you get to the obvious "fairy tale" part.

Unless of course the recipient is a total retard.

My mate across the road from me sold his BMW a couple of weeks ago , an old e36 325
He too had a dodgy email and a bloke said I'll buy it and send payment ASAP
He turned up in person though ( with a large transporter ) didn't ask many questions payed loaded it up and went
He was buying and collecting 6 that day and they're all being shipped to Eastern Europe
My mate said he did seem dodgy but he payed and all was well

I don't know what it is with BMW and Eastern Europe my m3 ended up in Latvia
Maybe we're missing something

It's because our second hand cars are so cheap compared to mainland Europe.

I enquired about a very nice Mini Cooper S for my Mrs on Autotrader a good few years back and when I had the return email it was a scam, I notified Autotrader but the car was still advertised on there days later.

I recently sold an S2000, missed out on the first sale as I wouldn't agree to a bank transfer as we were going to Belgium early hours the next morning for a few days and the boy who ended up buying the car also wanted to do one, although the two boys were localish and seemed genuine the fact is you cant trust anyone these days. I'm sure a few are wondering why I didn't agree to a bank transfer as it's thought safer than cash??

I read a story over on the MLR a number of years ago where a guy sold his Evo through a bank transfer and when he went to access the money it had disappeared along with the Evo From memory it may have been something to do the funds show up as being transferred but it takes a certain amount of time to actually clear??? I'm not really sure how the scammers did it but the story has always stuck in my mind since.

Yer I have seen things like that happen

I got caught few years back selling a mobile phone had an email from PayPal saying funds recived from buyer please supply tracking number to draw funds seemed all above board so sent it sent tracking number and to my surprise it was a fake PayPal email it was mental because the address on the email was all PayPal

Sooo........ I drove to the address that was about 45 mins from me I was not letting it go knocked on door and house was full of polish people all non English spoken or so they made out I was a bit outnumbered by 11 to 1 so sense told me just to walk away tried telling old bill but hey you know them they can't be bothered with minor stuff

Lesson learned and £350 quid down now it's cash cash cash unless it's to a scooby net member then PayPal is cool lol but only when funds are cleared in PayPal

Would have been a very good swap, apart from the fact that she makes delicious fairy cakes apparently (I'd kill for one now I'm off the diet, sort of).

I paid for mine via Internet Banking. The only glitch was the limit on any single transaction and/or max amount in a day, so I had to pay in two instalments.

Internet Bank transfers are 'instantly' cleared (by that I mean as soon as the request hits the other end, which like emails can be a few minutes). I think however the banks have a time delay, something like 'transferred before 1pm in the account by 18:00, after 18:00, by .... etc.'

By the seems of it must of been done with the delay you've just explained about and I remember it wasn't an old Evo at the time so he was taken for a lot of money Yes she does make very nice cakes!!! You aught to try her Vicky sponge!

This almost happened to my old man about ten years ago, right at the start when everyone was getting internet and the Africans were figuring out the scams..

It was for his VW Corrado, they even sent a bankers draft which cleared..so at that point my dad checks with the bank and they say yes all is fine, its a bankers draft you can go and release the car...luckily we held off another day as it wanted the physical money in our hands, and then all of a sudden the bank calls and said the draft didnt go through....so close thanks to bank, at the time, they said it was all fine...but i expect they all more savvy to it now

Did anyone watch the documentary about the internet cafes that are 'scam shops' in these African towns? its a day job to these guys..

The problem is the loop holes the crooks find in the banking system it's the bank to blame I reckon need better systems but most of all DONT FALL FOR IT in the first place but I know it's hard when everything seems cosha the only reason we know the scams is because people have fallen for it lol

Yer yer me included
