Car swap advice
Hello I have a Vauxhall VX220 turbo running 290bhp. Done lots to it. Cant be arsed to type it all down, loads! Anyway, my mate has a P1 and he wants to swap it for my VX220. I just want opinions and advice about the swap or if its worth it. He bought the P1 about 5 year ago and the engine went. He has pretty much changed everything to do with the engine so it is all brand new with about 10k miles on it. Hes put a bigger turbo on and exhaust etc. He also has a 400bhp evo and doesnt use the P1, its been sat in the garage for about 3 years. He said the car will start no problem and he will get it MOT. He said he will also throw in brand new ap discs and calipers that he bought for 5k but never fitted. He thinks 420bhp can be achived for about 4k?
What do you lot think? Looks and performance between both cars? Im unsure what to do at the moment! Keep or swap? Cheers

Your going to get a Fairly bias view on here but I would have the p1 over the vx220. When modding a limited edition vehicle is can lower its value but done right a p1 will a few good modifications will hold a good price, what do you value your vehicle at? £4k would give you 420bhp, a weaker point would be the 5speed gearbox but you can get a sti newage 6speed conversion. Do you know what turbo is currently fitted? A 2.1 stroker would give you the desired power
Thanks for the replies! The VX has 56k miles on it. Its worth about 10k. The P1 has about 45k but the engine has 10k miles. Power to weight for the VX is about 310bhp. What would need to be done to the P1 to make it faster or at least the same as the VX power wise? I would have about 4k to spend if i swaped. Turbo is ihi vf34
Things done to it:
Blitz exhaust three inch decat stainless magnex manifold
ihi vf34 turbo
Actuator
Induction kit
Engine mounts
Gearbox mounts
Better clutch and flywheel
Fuel pump
Group n oil pump

I'd keep a P1 as standard as I could to be honest, they're becoming rare. If you have to mod then I'd use bolt-on parts that can be easily reverted to stock.
Would say that a tidy VX220 Turbo is a fair swap for a tidy P1 with tasteful mods.

I wouldnt swap in this case. Those VX220s can really shift and its a very indivdual motor.
Only swap if you really want 4wd and a more practical car. 4wd cause you want to get your power down

agreed with the above, unless you need four seats and a less compromised car i'd stick with the VX, the P1 is going to be off the mark in terms of pace and driver interaction, also if you think your car is worth 10k, then you'll be losing out as a very decent P1 is probably more like 7k.
I guess the 4k he would be giving you?
The VX is a smart looking car!! Great fun, just depends if you have had enough out of it, I wouldn't swap personally, but depends how bored you are of it I guess
And I'm guessing you hear the word hair dresser quite alot?

I'd also factor in that as its been sat for three years ideally you'd want to change all fluids etc and probably stick a new cambelt on it. Tyres don't particularly like to be sat in one position for years either so if he hasn't been rotating them they may have suffered. Lastly check it for rust!! Holes in the outer sills at the rear jacking points (and also the fronts) isn't uncommon
The P1 would need c.400bhp to achieve 310bhp/tonne.
This is based on its official 'kerb weight' (all fluids; but no crew) of 1295kg.

Haha some funny comments
I've never been told i've got a hairdressers car but people do say its a batmobile lol. I think im going to keep the VX. I was getting a little bored of it but i've decided to take it to Courtenay sport for bigger internals etc to aim for 400bhp. It already manages 0 - 60 in 4.1 seconds and 0 - 100 in 7.4 seconds... top end isnt amazing though. It just doesn't "feel" as fast when driving which is probs why i was getting a bit bored. The attention the car gets driving it anywhere is amazing and probs the biggest reason i cant see it go. Thanks for the advice though, i'd love to be able to own both cars!

I would keep the VX, looks great and unless you need the four doors I don't see why you would want to get rid of it.
Courtenay motor sports would be the best place to go they built the 2.0 red top that was in my Nova back in the day and it was spot on, my mate uses them for his Astra Coupe 888 turbo
