Default Help me find my first subaru

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy my first subaru next week, my price range would be £5k max

I'm looking for an 03 plate or newer, cannot be anything older than 03 reg because of our private registration

Ideally would love an sti but don't think I'd find out for 5k on an 03 reg but if you guys could help point some out to me that would be great

Oh and I'm looking for a blob eye version, WRX, WRX PPP, STI, STI PPP... I know the last two are dreaming in my budget but everyone can dream lol

Thanks all

Hold out for an STi. Setting a target of buying something by next week isn't a good idea if it means you'll end up with a poor example or an inferior model.

You may be able to get a good 2003 one for around £5k. You'd certainly get a clean Bugeye with that money and if you went for a classic you could get a really proper motor for that. The problem is that the older the model the more chance of picking up a dog or distastefully-modified example.

By the way you'll soon get a load of chodes telling you that the WRX PPP is better than any other car ever made

Lol thanks, I seen lots of bug eye shape sti but not blob eye shape and due to our numberplate it needs to be an 03+ so blob eye it has to be lol

I been looking around for a few weeks now and if I can't manage to get an sti next weekend or the few days after then I shal settle with a wrx ppp

As much as I'd like to hold off and go for a sti we ideally need two cars as my partner has to pick my daughter up etc and I work 20 miles away so need the daily for that and can't go to long with only 1 car as I think my Leon is going at the weekend, so next weekend will already be a week without a second car

There's a few in that price range, I'm sure with a bit of haggling you could get for 5k...

Shame if the top one is sold, It looks great - the second one is average mileage i'd say and nothing for these engines.

Big shame about the top one as isn't far from me and I may of been able to squeeze a little cash to get it if he agreed to meet in between or something

Wil give the second one a message see if its still available etc, thanks

If the second car has a good service history and has been well looked after then six figures should not be a problem. These engines are tough and provided they have not been abused should carry on going.

Ultimately a low mileage example of that age may have been hammered over lots of short journeys and that is not preferable to something that has been used and maintained properly.

Agreed with what you have said but I would hold out for an STi, the WRX is a fast and capable car but just not as good. There is also the easy potential with the STi for another 50bhp with an exhaust, air filter and remap.

Looks clean and if it's your cup of tea you're getting a lot of car for the money there.

There is a reason though why people will pay 2-3k more for an STi of the same age without thinking too hard about it so if you can get a decent STi on the cheap then I would recommend pursuing that route.

I shall enquire about the 2004 sti first though it just the mileage that made me a little weary... But if I can go for that then so be it

I think I've commented on this one previously.

The ad's consistent - bought in Feb, presumably the surprise of an addition to the family and he's prepared to swap for a family saloon with a bit of poke.

Good price as well imo.

At the moment the cards are on the wrx ppp that's ad'd at £3850

Me and my partner just got our own place and get the keys Monday so lots going on now and might be less money to play with so I think the £3850 wrx ppp might be in aid and maybe look to part ex to a sti in the near future!

Funnily enough that's what I was going to suggest but you got there before me.

Hope the move goes OK.
Your own home IS the most important, trust me.

All the best (to you both).

=thenewgalaxy;11207803]Hold out for an STi.
Yes hold out for an STI but just remember you will have to change the suspension and fix the brakes and gearbox, so make sure you have a spare 1/2K in the kitty.

By the way you'll soon get a load of chodes telling you that the WRX PPP is better than any other car ever made
It's certainly a better option than a clapped out STI, the WRX PPP is also faster where it counts, if it's for a daily driver for the MRS and a bit of weekend fun for you then a lightly modded WRX is where it's at, but the STI gandu's with their pink badges, blue seats, gold wheels and ironing board on the back don't like to hear that.

However if you want to spend thousands fixing the faults and making it look like a WRX inside with the ride of a plank of wood on rocks then the STI is the car for you.

Ahh the "WRX is faster and better than the full-fat STi club" have finally arrived en masse

I just like to put both sides of the story out there and since you invited me I thought it would be rude not to.

Ok all as you know tables turned due to moving etc I've been looking for a wrx on 03 plate or newer without being a million miles away

I'm looking at a blue one it looks metallic blue like the common blue but I was wondering if in future I wanted to put the sti spoiler and bumpers on if the blue is the same between the sti and wrx or were they different blues?
