Default Help needed please

As above need a little help, just been out in car today (2003 wrx sti ppp) on way back I noticed a tinny rattling noise sounds like something on or around the exhaust possible heat shield or something. Anyone got any ideas what it could be ? thanks in advance for any help.

Does it do it on tickover, and also does the rattle increase (in noise and frequency) as the revs increase ?

And when you say exhaust - under the bonnet or at the rear?

towards rear id say. doesn't do it on tick over. think it stays the same as revs increase cant really hear it as engine noise drowns it out. low revs in second gear is when I realy hear it the most.

Sounds like a heat shield to me. I had a similar problem until I removed my heat shields. Hopefully that's your problem as that's the cheapest fix. Get it on a set if ramps & try banging around underneath to see where it's coming from.

I'm not a spanners man but I guessed that if I asked a few questions the answers would give someone who is a good start.

Hopefully serpico's got the solution.

My 07 STi had a rusted through centre bracket on the standard 07 exhaust.

The bracket was still inside the rubber bung, but the weld to the exhaust had rusted through. I never heard any rattles, but perhaps check there.
