Default Bug sti engine build advice.

Hi all,

My bug sti is now off the road untill the new year and stored in the garage. My wife has paid for me to do a nurbergring experience next year in a F3 car and take my car around the circuit.

So with that in mind I want to have the car completly set up for next year and running a minimum 400bhp.

Now I'm still new to the boxer engine and my knowledge really is with nissan sr20det engines so I'm after some help with what I need to hit 400bhp. Sorry if its been covered a million times.

So far I have the following parts to fit:-

1. Full decat turbo back exhaust system.
2. Walboro fuel pump
3. K + N thyphoon induction
4. stage 2 clutch with lightweight flywheel
5. japspeed type 3 headers and up pipe.

Ok so what else do I need other than the obvious remap. Bigger turbo? bigger injectors? And will the standard bug sti internals take 400bhp ok?Its only a weekend toy not a daily driver.

Many thanks in advance.

Yes, your internals should be fine at 400bhp.
All you need now is some injectors and a turbo.

This place is a good starting point...

I'd also add a decent front mounted intercooler to that list. Many say that the sti top mount interwarmer is good for 400 but id definitely go fm at this level

i would say you would need to think about decent pads/discs and fluid and make sure all the suspension is in good working order and decent rubber aswell.try and get some second hand coilovers and get a geo set up done so the handling is spot on (no point going there if your car cant actually go around)

dont forget the ring is around 13 miles with lots of corners so i would forget about the 400bhp as this will mean nothing, you want a quick spooling turbo with lots of mid-range punch to pull you out of those corners with minimal lag

decent oil and coolant wouldnt go a-miss either

why not strip out the sti for the trip for the added race-car experience?

perhaps have switchable maps so you can trundle there normal then whack the meth in to put in a quick lap

also remember that any damage to the track will be payable by...............YOU

have fun

was meant to say about getting a baffled sump to stop oil surge in the twisties, might seem like over kill but @£150 to save your engine its worth it then when your home sell it

A decent re-map should see 340 bhp, enough for fun, maybe not enough for a TA car....

IMHO, suspension and brakes are also worth a look for track use.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention that I just upgraded all my suspension and new groved and drilled disks all round with new lines and redstuff pads. Just fitted new xxr 527 rims and new yoko tyres so I should be ok for handling and braking. I always get the handling and brakes sorted before I up the power. I will throw in ARB's and ALK before next year too just to be fully covered.

So what turbo and injectors are suited?
