What car to purchase next, do I stay with Subaru?
I'm currently looking for something else, but what? I have had my small share of Subaru's and I'm not sure if its time for a change.
Ive had various Newage's, inc a UK300 (boring btw), Bugeye STI, Bugeye jdm STI, a few Blobeye's all uk specs, in fact ive owned 8 newage motors , of which 3 have been small power/handling projects which were fun, and of course I've owned One reasonably powered Classic which was great to drive, but it felt very dated, and the shell was felling the age quite badly
So do I move away from Subaru to try something else, or do I keep looking for the next Subaru? There are quite a host of marques that I feel I should at leat try, but then I have not yet experience a SpecC, or a proper twin scroll JDM car. I'm not a big fan of classics, maybe because I havent had the right one yet, but I'm open minded
What is your opinion, both about other cars V's Subaru, or simply "that Subaru" I havent yet owned.
I'm put off by the 2,5's somewhat, so a Hatch has always made my knees tremble, but it is a car that I would like to own one day.
The car would be a weekend bit of fun as all mine have been, and I would like to occasionally see some track action, so it needs to be reliable.
Ive in the region of £10k, but this might shrink as I fancy another 2 wheel motor too.

In the same shoes Rob , although its only my 3rd scooby after i finish what i started i'm going to move on to smtn else.. Yes they all say you will come backa nd all that, but life would be very boring if you had only fish and chips on the menu. I love subarus, but there's a couple more cars that i want to try. Even the dark side, just for a change. You can always sell it and move to smtn else.....or come back to subaru if none of the others made you happy.

Me too, but Im put off with stories re weak drive chains. Ive been informed that I should really buy a 9 if I was to go down this route as their stronger in every sense. What also puts me off is the excessive Servicing, and issues with the AYC!
Tempted by a German brand or two also, a work collegue had a RS6 whch was nice

Now if you got one please be constructive and explain it what advantages it's got. As everytime i'm trying to ask the evo boys this question, the answer sounds like they drive one of example made by names such as koenigsegg or smtn , always makes me laugh. I know its a bit more tarmac track focused as a base , but in a real world how much more you can feel it?

there a few things that 10k would get, and if its a weekend toy you can get some pretty good cars for the cash

Yes I'm aware German is generally heavier and less nimble is standard guise, but they do sound nice . At the end of the day, which ever car I buy will be more of a weekend bit of fun, than a track weapon, so being entirely focussing on a track worthy car isn't necessary, and at this stage simply competing is fun alone, being competitive isn't necessary as no 10k budget can be unless it more track focused, thus not road friendly. I mean take API's car that's up for sale at the moment, this would be ideal, but its not entirely road friendly ;(
Fudgey, I forgot to add I've two kids too, which would also be seated with me should we go out as a family day in the weekend toy, so for any 2 seater I've written off the idea for now, thus I'm considering getting another bike for those alone times!
I don't think the iconic cossie is my bag too, especially now quite a few are plagued with age related chassis and bodywork corrosion (have looked at a few years ago).
I'll just keep looking with an open mind I think. I have even considered a cheap hatch just for a change, but I hate French at the moment with ever increasing mechanical and electrical issues!

Clio V6 - way too much money for what you get, heavy and not much better than a 182

Last night I was sat behind a lovely looking Evo 8 FQ320 in gunmetal, it really did look the mutts nuts.
As I looked at it I started to wonder if I had done the right thing importing an S202 and not opting for a plunge into the 'dark side', I dare say the S202 will be a fantastic car but the what if factor will always be there...

Personally, for me, a good JDM Newage is a real joy to own. The standard twinscroll set-up makes for a quick and usable road car, that have a very good reliability record. You also know that with a decent base engine, you can expand the power hit should you wish to without going "internal", with great results and an apparent reliability that is outstanding for a standard engine (and associated transmission).
This overall package & ability of a JDM Newage is testament to my opinion, that for a road blaster it is one of the best packages (if not the best) that Subaru has to offer.
Taking all my factors in to consideration I made the absolute right choice in buying my current car three years ago. If I were to make the same decision again now, I would choose the same outcome...... especially knowing what I know after 3yrs of ownership.
It's been quite simply a joy to own and drive, to the point that I'm not sure if I will ever sell it. Coming from a 600+bhp Spec C previously, I never thought I would feel this way after 3yrs of ownership of a "road car".

I have recently moved on from Subaru after 12 yrs and numerous cars, nearly went for a Evo but they didn't offer as much fun as my old Impreza and just lacked character. I also seriously considered a Rs4 B7 but there are so many with murky pasts cat c-d etc plus the dealership servicing costs are shocking!
In the end I plumped for a 2007 monaro Vxr 6.0 in sting red and have to say at the moment I am loving it, completely different animal to a Impreza it still manages to put a smile on my face even though I don't drive it hard through the bend or have great power to weight ratio! The V8 sound and straight line power is immensely enjoyable and with such a comfortable driving position it is a good daily drive, fuel consumption varies from 15-25mpg depending on the road and right foot

Westfield.
I had the scooby as an everyday car (std WRX) and the westfield for weekend fun.
The scooby is quick and is a stanadrd car (carries 5 people and has a boot etc) and is also fast in the wet but it didn't come close to the experience of a small leightweight rocket. My westy was an old 1992 pinto engined version with 150 BHP but the experience was totally different. Soo close to the ground you can touch it and no windscreen on mine.
I only sold it as I couldn't afford to keep a weekend car that got such little use.
The scooby is great and far more practical for the same performance but it's the westy for thrills every time.

As I see it the only Audi RS within budget is the RS6 form the early 2000's, I had an A6 from this era and it was distinctly average, after about 60,000 miles the logo's started to wear off the interior switch gear, the handling was soooo front heavy it made an Impreza look mid-engined and it was generally a lardy car that will eat brakes and tyres. That said, it is hard to argue with 450+ bhp.
Also, you have to ask yourself why the RS6 is so much cheaper than an older RS4! It speaks volumes about how collectors and enthusiasts view the RS6.
How about a BMW M3 - would make a great track weapon, pretty solid, and for £10k you will get a decent one with lots of history.
