Freelander
Son's just bought a Freelander 1. According to the handbook it weighs less than my Spec D I was surprised as it's twice the size. Not as fast though.

Thats why they crumple like a tin can in a head on crash. (Ncap 3).
Rumour has it the floor pan is developed off a Austin Maestro van. I know the prototype mules were based on Maestro vans, but how much of the Maestro finally made it into the Freelander is anyone's guess (afterall we are talking about Austin Rover...before BMW bought it).

6 gears, intercooler spray, radio remote, smartnav, ...
... offset by aluminium bonnet, thin paint, smaller spoiler, less engine block; doesn't make much of a difference in total
